I’m listening to Cage on a loop today and the opening seconds reminded me of a question I wanted to ask you all.
What are you favourite random Paul vocal contributions? The ones where he just can’t contain his excitement about the song he’s getting a chance to make. I’m thinking of the whoops and yeahs after he starts harmonising in Old Brown Shoe , that kind of thing.
Any song counts, Beatles/Wings/Solo/collaborations.

Love the random shrieking outbursts and babbling responses sprinkled throughout this manic performance of “I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate” (or “Shitty Shitty”, as John calls it)
And this epic (three guitar breaks!) rendition of “Little Queenie” finds Paul responding to Ringo’s incessant, explosive intensity shifts with some great great stuff, particularly at 2:28 and 3:45

I like the exaggerated “soul”-grunts he breaks out as backup commentary to John’s gibberish-mutter in the final segment of “You know my name”, before the vibes and sax solo

– the beatboxing on That Would Be Something
– the “Oh woah” towards the end of Another Day
– the fake brass solos he and Linda do on Hands of Love. Quite an adorable moment between them on record!
– the “doo-ooh” towards the end of Listen To What The Man Said

I keep forgetting to post about the phone noises in Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey .
In this video
she admires the noise, but doesn’t recognise that it’s a phone. That made me feel pretty old

I didn’t realize it was meant to be a ringing telephone, in childhood, either; phones in Canada/USA don’t go “drrr-drrr” but “DRDRDRDRDRDRDRDDRRrrrr“

Hearing the beginning of Two Many People always draws me into the album. I used to think it was all noises, but listening to the remaster it sounds like he is singing “Piss off, cake”.

They didn’t call this “surf music” in England at the time, but that’s what “Cry For a Shadow” sounds like now. I really like this instrumental, George is really confident in his soloing. In fact I think this woulda made a fine touring number, a showcase for George – and Ringo, who’d really make it stand up on its feet under his thunder. But it’d really be a showpiece for Paul, whose teenaged off-mic whoops are the only vocal. His throat is simply the rockingest element here
