‘Keep Backing Back To Love’ happened to play one afternoon and so found these great lyrics

Everywhere I get to
I’m always on my own
Tryin’ to solve a mystery
And if it was up to me I wouldn’t be alone

Anytime I miss you
The feeling is so strong
But the road I’m travelling
Is filled with echoes of your sweet song

It’s rarely a song that gets mentioned but well worthy of being heard more often, especially over some of the crap that Paul shoved on ‘Off The Ground ‘ or was throwing out as other b-sides.

"I told you everything I could about me, Told you everything I could" ('Before Believing' - Emmylou Harris)

Jenny Wren’s lyrics are beautiful

Originally I was just gonna share an excerpt, but then I realized the lyrics were so short

Like so many girls, Jenny Wren could sing
But a broken heart, took her soul away

Like the other girls, Jenny Wren took wing
She could see the world, and it’s foolish ways

How, we, spend our days, casting, love aside
Loosing, site of life, day, by, day

She saw poverty, breaking all the home
Wounded warriors, took her song away

But the day will come, Jenny Wren will sing
When this broken world, mends its foolish ways

Now we, spend our days, catching, up on life
All because of you, Jenny Wren

I’ve Just Seen A Face ” is pretty good, and in my opinion some of Paul’s best.

Pretty much all of the lyrics of Fixing A Hole are fantastic. Just something about it’s strangeness and the vocals always hit my ears in a different way.

I’m taking the time for a number of things…

That weren’t important… YESTERDAY

Oh boy, that is impossible. We have over fifty years of Macca lyrics to pick, so many great ones out there and I think there are still large portions of his solo Career I haven’t even really discovered yet.

Without even thinking about the lyrics he wrote for the Beatles, here are two true stand-outs of his post-Beatles-career.

Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh,

Seeing no one else had come,

And a bell was ringing in the village square,

For the rabbits on the run

I want someone who can save me,

When I come home from the zoo,

I need somebody who’s a sweet communicator,

I can give my Alligator to

Just brillant, what a poet.

Sure I do, @Ahhh Girl I love Memory Almost Full to pieces. And TEOTE has awesome lyrics.

But like I said, I don’t even want to think too much about it because there are so many great Macca lyrics. Since we’re counting The Beatles too there are Eleanor Rigby , Here, There And Everywhere , Let It Be , Blackbird , She’s Leaving Home … Aaah, I have to stop!

I can’t count Beatles, or this list would get far too long, and I don’t even know where to start, but:

Too Much Rain , Somebody Who Cares, The Song We Were Singing, That Day Is Done, Somedays, Riding To Vanity Fair, Calico Skies, Tug Of War , Dear Friend, Waterfalls, Friends To Go, Little Willow, Here Today , Must Do Something About it…

The list goes on. And that’s just off the top of my head.

I’m not too familiar with any of the solo Beatles works by any of the four, honestly. Can anyone recommend any good Macca albums to me besides “Ram “? Preferably with good poetry.

Come on! This is supposed to be an appreciation of good lyrics, not a “let’s get into more arguements about our least favorite lyrics!”

Some more I just remembered: Every Night , Mamunia, Band On The Run , Venus And Mars , etc.

Isn't he a bit like you and me?

You do realize that by saying that, I’m accepting every other song Paul wrote as worthy of this category?

And if anyone does think Wild Honey Pie is worthy to be in the thread I’m… well… I’m not quite sure what to say

Love one another.

What is wrong with She’s A Woman ? Great set of clever lyrics I find extremely comforting and relatable. Plus the vocal performance is top tier Paul

Flaming Pie and Chaos And Creation In The Backyard are two albums I always recommend as they really show off Paul’s ability to stay relevant. If you like poetry, these two should suit you fine.

Oh it’s a lovely song, for sure! Fabulous vocal and I’m in love with the guitar. It’s just that there’s some weird lines in a couple spots… “my love don’t give me presents?” “My love knows she’s no peasant?” They sound a bit like filler lines to me… but apart from the lyrics the song is completely fabulous.

Love one another.
