I was going to start a topic on this given the discussion going on today about the Pure McCartney collection just announced. I think we can all agree there were some omissions. I found this topic started re: the Wingspan greatest hits disc, so let’s continue I guess? If you’ve already posted, maybe something’s changed since you did originally, or not.
Here, again are the rules for this as put down by TheWalrus:
Pick your favourite 14 Paul post-Beatle songs (so solo, duets, and Wings all count) and make an album out of them. You can choose more songs if you wish, of course.
One rule: no more than three tracks from any one album.
Very hard to do for me. I’ll give it a shot and the order can be rearranged, mostly this is songs as they come to me:
1. My Brave Face (Flowers In The Dirt )
2. This One (Flowers In The Dirt )
3. The World Tonight (Flaming Pie )
4. Helen Wheels (Band On The Run – U.S. version)
5. My Love (Red Rose Speedway )
6. Every Night (McCartney)
7. The Pound is Sinking (Tug Of War )
8. Rinse The Raindrops (Driving Rain )
9. Monkberry Moon Delight (Ram )
10. Coming Up (McCartney II )
11. Another Day (Single)
12. Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey (Ram )
13. Hope of Deliverance (Off The Ground )
14. Let Me Roll It (Band On The Run ) – very Lennon-esque this one?
Bonus track: Cut Me Some Slack (with Nirvana). I thought it rocked.

I don’t know why I previously thought that Arrow Through Me deserves to be on a Paul Mccartney greatest hits album. I actually forgot all about that song since I made that list and had to listen to it just now on YouTube. I think I forgot it for a reason.

I think it would be interesting to see a compilation that pulled one track from each album (but not the obvious ones like ‘Maybe I’m Amazed ‘, ‘Band On The Run ‘ and ‘My Love) along with a selection of the bigger stand-alone singles like ‘Mull Of Kintyre ‘ and ‘Hi Hi Hi /C Moon’. In fact scrap the singles and do something that really promotes the more obscure album cuts.

I’m sad to not see enough RAM on the lists. After a resurgence of popularity I was disappointed not to see songs like Long Haired Lady, Eat At Home , or even Hey Diddle. I would definitely want to include those on a greatest hits list.

Can you call it a greatest hits collection if they weren’t the greatest hits?
To be fair it does say “pick your favorite 14” which can be anything you love most.

I’ve made a Spotify playlist for all four Beatles solo stuff.
Here’s Paul’s:
P.S. if any of you Beatle Biblers are on Spotify, go ahead and follow me if you want! I’ll reciprocate. 🙂

If you haven’t seen it yet, @castironshore, there’s a thread for Pure McCartney here.
