I came across the papers relating to John kept by the FBI and I couldn’t see this posted anywhere else. I haven’t been through everything but I thought from page 53 was interesting about and extortion threat to John and his family in 1977 which I never heard about.

The troubling part is they never did nail the culprits, who seemed to know the cops were watching. A scant two years before Lennon’s death at the hands of another maniac. And these were just the most persistent ones, people were always getting their number or “dropping by” like the creepy guy in his car just waiting outside. And given all the attention they had from the FBI when John was a potential threat to them, he had to bring this to their attention when they were no longer interested. The way the reports are mixed up, it’s creepy how the dossier ends on an earlier note of threat after the letters affair peters out.
