Missing John today.

SgtPeppersBulldog, BeatlebugI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

If you can nail down someone’s personality traits they’re never really gone. But yes….he’s still not physically here. I often wonder how he would have died if he wasn’t murdered. I’m thinking cancer via smoking. It’s one of those great unknowns, and it’s irrelevant anyway.

I’ve been in a John kick lately. Watching videos and listening to stuff and so. I wonder how he would have managed with new technologies and social networks etc…would he run his twitter account himself, or would he let it be run by an assistant?…i think he would have been really funny in Twitter.
John + laptop + protools… crazy

I’ve often wondered similar. I wonder what he’d make of the internet, maybe he might stumble across this site ,or what he makes of iPods, and the download culture of today. Getting his views on May and Trump would be interesting too.
I miss him, and I wasn’t even born when he died.

I feel like he would either make strong political messages or just spam weird pictures of him and Yoko all day.

I think he would’ve been fun on social media but also interesting and deep. He would’ve used it, I’m sure.

I like to think he would use it to write little surrealistic/nonsense funny humoristic stuff like: “Would you like a cup of teeth?”
All seasoned with one of his handwritten paintings/cartoons. Just like he did in school.

Yep. He said he always would be artistic, even if he was a painter or a children’s author.

Thinking of John today. This is probably the case for all of us, but he fact he has been gone 39 years just doesn’t seem right when he crafted so much great music and words that continues to resonate so fresh today and inspire people. And now, we can only dream of what ahead-of-its-time music John probably would be making. But I will be honouring him well today for being part of my life with my listening choice. Here’s to you, Dr Winston O’Boogie, now and forever!

Maybe I’m heartless, but for me, today isn’t a sad day. Rather, it’s another excuse to take a moment to stop and appreciate a wonderfully talented artist and fabulously complicated man whose work, play, and stories have impacted the lives of so many. Stopping and appreciating is a thing we so often forget to do, and so I take any opportunity to do so with an enthusiasm that may not seem quite respectful, but I really don’t think John would mind.
if he were Here Today…

I can sit and simply appreciate George on 29 November because his loss was expected and natural; today makes me sad, and angry. Yes, I appreciate John today — 39 years ago the path my life was on changed (a story told elsewhere), for the better, so how could I not appreciate, but I cannot not be sad, not feel robbed.
John’s life was stolen, on purpose, malice aforethought, and with that so much else was stolen: all those songs, poems, books, interviews, films, antics, that we would have been treated to; the possibility of, after much bloodshed and angry exchanges of words throughout much of the 80s (the legal cases that sowed so much division between Paul and the others were already in motion), a real Beatles reunion; him fully reconciling with Julian and being able to watch Sean come of age; so much was stolen from him, and us.
Today makes me angry that we could have stolen from us such a life because a man with a history of mental illness and suicide attempts was allowed to legally buy a firearm, and that nearly forty years later – and over a million-and-a-half more senseless deaths which America’s gun laws, or lack of, have much to answer for – have barely changed, and would still allow for the senseless gunning down of John Lennon , or John or Jane Doe, for the 2nd Amendment.

Fair enough. Perhaps I’m just jaded by all the homework I’m currently procrastinating doing
However, I don’t believe penalizing the majority of people who simply want a gun for self-defense or recreation in the hopes of stopping a handful of murderous lunatics who would have no qualms about breaking gun laws to break the law that says you can’t murder people is the right answer. You just have to look at London and Chicago to see that stricter gun laws do not murders prevent. I can easily imagine He Who Shall Not Be Named finding a way to do what he wanted to do even if he couldn’t get a gun legally. I also don’t believe in making John’s life and tragic death political…
