So apparently he and Yoko went to Primal therapy sessions in 1970. Primal Therapy is essentially a form of psychotherapy that focuses on childhood trauma. So my questions are these: 1) Why did John and Yoko go to these sessions, and 2) How did this affect him? I remember reading in a thread (I can’t remember which) that said John often liked to call Yoko “Mother ” or “mummy”. Maybe his childhood trauma of being detached from his mother either caused this with Yoko and/or made him go to these therapy sessions?

If I recall correctly, John first became interested in it because he liked the idea of a “primal scream,” since it reminded him of Yoko’s vocals. They never actually finished the therapy, so basically a lot of things were opened up for John and then never resolved. That’s why there is so much raw pain on the Plastic Ono Band album. John did have a fixation on his mother that went very deep (to the point of crossing into the taboo).

There’s that infamous incest-y audio diary he did about his mother…very strange…

Expert Textpert has it right. I often wondered why John didn’t seek out other sources of counseling for the pain he was carrying around about Julia and Alf. I am guessing he was afraid to go there, as it were. I know Yoko didn’t trust psychologists. I read that she thought their intentions were to control people and what they thought and felt. It is sad to think that perhaps John could have had some resolution to the intense pain and anger he suffered if only he would have tried to get some help for it. I feel John’s feelings/relationship with Julia are as complex and unexplainable as his feelings/relationship with Yoko.

^ More than that, I think that his relationship , and the whole situation altogether, with Yoko actually has a lot to do with that that he had (or didn’t have) with Julia .
Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.
