I’m Catholic (not Roman) and in Catholicism you celebrate a saint on the day they die, because it is the day they go to be with God . I know John Lennon isn’t a saint (far from it), but it seems appropriate.
So, on December 8 I am having a party to celebrate the life of John Lennon and the fact that even though he’s gone, he will never really die. It’s going to last 5 and 1/2 hours and it will be a potluck dinner with alcohol and several friends.
It’s going to start with a screening of Good Ol’ Freda, then I’m going to play a playlist I’ve chosen from Lennon’s Beatles songs, then a playlist from his solo songs. Then we’ll end with a screening of John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band Live in Toronto, 1969.
And each guest will get to choose their own Beatles button (badge) to take home from a set of 17.
Does anyone else have Beatles parties? I could have done it on his birthday, but it fell on a weekday and there is more time to do what I wanted on Sunday, December 8.
Playlist 1
I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party
Help !
You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away
I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
Playlist 2
Instant Karma (We All Shine On)
Love
Oh Yoko!
Aisumasen (I’m Sorry)
Bless You
# 9 Dream
Nobody Loves You (When You’re Down and Out)
(Just Like) Starting Over
Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)

This is a great idea. I’ve never been to a Beatles party, though my friends and I had other musician-themed parties when we were teens. Have a wonderful time.

Never thought of doing a musician-themed party before. Great idea – assuming your friends are fans or open to being so, if not. Sounds like you got it well organized, too.
Have a good time, though it’ll be bittersweet, I imagine.
Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

I have a few Beatles and John Lennon fans and fellow fanatics close to my age (who have shared a lot of great Beatles stuff with me), plus I have a Beatles fanatic friend who was a teenager in the 1960’s, who will be there with her John Lennon obsessed son. So far we should have 7 including me and my wife, but 5 more have not RSVP’d yet. I’m really excited about it. And yes, I’m sure it will be emotional for me when John walks off the stage at 10:00 o’clock.

Have a great time at your John Lennon party! I do something for John’s birthday and the anniversary of John’s death each year. I put a lighted candle (electric) in my upstairs window..Yoko lights one every year at the Dakota…and I’ve released white balloons with messages to John tied to them written by my friends. My best friend and I did a White Album party a few years back on the anniversary of the release of that album. Everyone had to wear white; we only served white food; we had a Beatles cover band (our friends) perform; we showed videos of the Beatles; and we had a table of Beatles memorabilia for people to peruse. We also did a Beatles trivia contest (teams). The winning team got a CD of Anthology songs. It turned out really well. We’re working on another party for the spring. Have a wonderful time…you’ll be surprised how great it is! It is more uplifting than sad, I found. You feel closer to them. (I also do balloons for George)

you gotta add MEAT CITY, too the list….
It’s not one of my favorites, but I’ll play it if you come.
Does anyone else have any favorites I omitted?
…by the way, what I tried to do was only include songs that John wrote by himself, and (for the most part) sang by himself.

Any John party i came to (and you’re does sound such good fun) i would be looking to here have the demo of Real Love from John’s anthology (not the Beatles version). I occasionally think of here doing one of those mass events where at the same time we all watch one film or listen to a song as others sites have done with various material it but the time differences might prove to be a problem.

I wonder if that might be easier during the holidays.
