“I talked to Yoko the day after John was killed and the first thing she said was, ‘John was really fond of you, you know.’ It was almost as if she sensed that I was wondering whether he had… whether the relationship had snapped. I believe it was always there. I believe he really was fond of me, as she said. We were really the best of mates. It was really ace.”

John speaks of a possible Beatles reunion in 1975. Do you guys think that would have happened? I mean he states that he had a fallen out but things got better. I wonder if George would have done it.
I have read that John was planning a Beatles reunion when he got shot. I don’t remember where I saw that, though.

Possible, as he did record with George and Ringo on his solo albums, however there’s the fact that he almost never played live as a solo artist, only a handful of concerts were performed by him after the split.

I think he also said that if the Beatles were to get back together, it wouldn’t be live. It would just be something in the studio.

He was definitely more bitter towards Paul. Paul was a control freak near the end of the Beatles, and that really got on George’s nerves. George probably blamed Paul for preventing his songs from making it onto the albums.
Also George played guitar on How Do You Sleep? which is a direct diss at Paul.
They made up by the time they made the anthologies, as they came back together and recorded. I’m sure that they got over it and the good things were remembered more than the bad.

Is it just me or was the only Beatle that John didn’t get along with after the breakup was Paul because Ringo’s on Cold Turkey and Plastic Ono Band while George’s on Instant Karma and Imagine .

I think George and John had a falling out in the mid 70’s

Really? I read somewhere that George only did it for the money and was still mad at Paul.
You are correct. Even during the jam part of The Anthology, it really doesn’t seem like George even wants to be there.

Yeah, and then John was super butthurt about not being mentioned in George’s book I, Me, Mine.

I was actually shocked and surprised at John’s reaction to I, Me, Mine. “I taught him everything…After all I did for him…etc.” Of course, that was the whole point of the song of the same title.

To be fair, John was the main influence in Georges songwriting in 67 and 68. John could have been more mature, but if I had been in his shoes I would have gotten my feelings hurt too.

This is a question I have thought of quite frequently after listening to many of John’s interviews and articles about his mum.. Do you think John has ever recovered completely from his troubled childhood and his mum’s sudden death? I think I’ve read somewhere that he’s been subconsciously looking for a mother figure and that he found it in Yoko but I wonder if it really was like that or if he simply wanted to convince himself it was like that in order to “ease” his inner pain.

I know this is a stupid question, but who the hell decided that going bare naked for Two Virgins was a good idea. I know there was controversy with Yesterday and Today as well, but at least that was just raw meat and baby dolls, whereas this was two adults in the nude promoting an album that is related to The Beatles, who had recently released Yellow Submarine , a movie that’s aimed at 4-10 year olds. Did they not realize how many children liked The Beatles, I mean imagine being 7 at the time and seeing this and the cardboard slip makes it worse because you don’t know what’s under it until after you buy it.

There was much controversey with Two Virgins . Most were opposed to it. The only way they could release it was by putting it in the cardboard sleeve. Without the cardboard sleeve, it would have never been allowed to be on shelves. The album cover, as far as I know, was meant to resemble rebirth. It was symbolic of John and Yoko’s new relationship or something like that.

@BeatleSoul, take a look at this thread https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..emptiness/
I will take another look around to see if I can find another thread that might go along with your question.
EDIT: Put this in as a Google search, and you’ll find more posts on the topic.
