As soon as I saw this, I could hear George Harrison singing “All Things Must Pass :” “Sunrise doesn’t last all morning…” Well, if you’re gonna start your day off with a tequila-and-orange cocktail, that’s one way to make your voice sound more… “orange.”

The “official” Beatles drink (their favourite) was scotch and Coke. I tried those for a couple of months but didn’t warm to them – in fact, I thought the concoction was pretty vile. I guess it takes much more than two bottles of J&B to develop a taste for scotch.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I thought he wasn’t talking about his voice, but rather about the song as a whole. I don’t know.
I came across the “orange” idea again tonight. http://www.vulture.com/2016/03…..artin.html I think @Linde is right. John wanted a song to sound orange, not his voice. I can’t quite make out from this article if John wanted Kite or some other song to sound “orange”.
Based on an old poster he owned, Lennon wrote “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!” and asked Martin to help him evoke the sights, sounds, and smells of a carnival, with his usual vague ideas. “He’d make whooshing noises and try to describe what only he could hear in his head, saying he wanted a song ‘to sound like an orange,'” Martin recalled in Mark Lewisohn’s 1988 book The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions. “John had said that he wanted to ‘smell the sawdust on the floor,’ wanted to taste the atmosphere of the circus.” Martin took recordings of old Victorian steam organs and told Emerick to cut the tapes into small pieces, toss them in the air, then reassemble them at random and include them in the song to re-create the cacophony of a circus.
Side note: this is a grand thread if you need a fun read.
