The last photograph of John by Annie Leibovitz is the one with John posing near his window overlooking Central Park. The very last taken of John alive is by Paul Goresh with John going to his limo after signing the autograph for the killer who would betray him hours later. John's last autograph was to a desk clerk working at the Record Plant just 20 minutes before his senseless murder.

I looked into this thread wanting to find some nice, albeit sort of sorrowful pictures of the legend. I blame no one for introducing the topic of posthumous photography, but it really did make me want to cry. Being born in the 90's, I felt so far removed from the idea of his murder, and discussing the photography…it chilled me. I can only imagine where his brilliance could have taken him – it was still carrying him leagues ahead of everyone else, even after the Beatles called it quits. Rest in peace, dear friend of the ages.

Unfortunately I have seen it. The respect they had for him really was 0. I mean, even when he’s no longer here, he still can’t get any peace. I know it’s their job etc.etc. but I have a big dislike towards photographers/journalists.

Not only have I seen the pic, too, but I remember reading an account online that several of the morgue workers were caught (and fired for) posing for pictures with the body and posing it into different positions and taking “funny” pictures with John. Disgusting.

I know, doesn’t it? Luckily those pictures haven’t surfaced (that I know of), but the fellow who stated that was a former employee of the NYC medical examiner/morgue office and claimed he’d seen the pics and knew the guys who did it, who were all fired. It could be false, but it seems like a sick thing to make up if it weren’t true, especially since the fellow was claiming to be a huge Beatles fan and was appalled by the whole thing…I don’t think he’d make it up if he was disgusted by it.
Poor John

The last photos of John were those taken by Paul Goresh as John left the Dakota for the recording studio on 8 December 1980, including the one with that man. There are four in all, the last of them, and therefore the last picture of John, not being of particularly good quality because the flash failed to go off.
The final photograph…
Whether the morgue scene as described above happened I don’t know. There is certainly one picture taken at the morgue by an attendant there. I could post a link but find it distasteful to the extreme. However if you Google “John Lennon morgue picture” it is easily found, should you have the wish.

Yeah they get under my skin too, it’s mostly the trashy/paparazzi style ones. I get especially irritated with the fake-ass “journalists” on TV. They are so awful! It’s why I dislike Oprah so much. She probably the most fake human being on the planet.

Those last photos are really tough to look at. Poor John. 🙁 I would never want to see the morgue picture personally, I’d feel so disrespectful. I saw the picture of Chris Farley when he was found dead in his hotel. I typed only “Chris Farley” into the search and it came up on the first page. REALLY pissed me off because I would have NEVER looked for it. What’s seen cannot be unseen and it’s now etched in my brain forever and I effing hate it.

I know they’re not all the same but I think it’s fair to say that the vast majority of them will stop at nothing to get their hands on ”juicy” gossip.

Totally dont want to see John on a morgue table so can nobody post the photo here. Incredibly sick and totalliy immoral in my opinion. Ive heard that before some of the Paparazzi came to Princess Diana’s aid after the car crash in the French tunnel that sadly killed her they took pictures of her. How anyone can take a photographs of someone, anyone, as they are dying or lying in the morgue is far beyond my understanding.

Actually, no. The majority of photojournalists – the ones who bring you the daily news, covering breaking stories, doing portraits of ordinary newsmakers, press conferences, risking their lives in war-torn areas – are unsung heroes. They’re not doing glamorous work. It’s just unfortunate that the minority of paparazzi-types are the ones that stand out in your perception.

Living in the same country as fabfouremily, I find her attitude toward journalism totally understandable, while agreeing with your views, parlance. Sections of print journalism in this country have been running amuck for many years, resulting in many associated with Rupert Murdoch’s News International facing criminal charges ranging from the hacking of murdered children’s phones to corrupt payments to public officials. The UK is a very difficult country in which to have a positive view of print journalism at the moment, with the best tainted by the worst. Even when their actions have been within the law our press has for too long been filled with gross intrusions of privacy and distortions of the truth. Whilst there is much good and admirable journalism in our quality press and on television, it becomes tarred by our tabloid sector.
