I ran across this video on YouTube recently, about the gypsy caravan/vardo that John had commissioned for Julian’s fourth birthday. I thought I knew a lot about the Beatles, but I was a little ashamed I had never heard of this story before.
Apparently when John left Cynthia to move into Titenhurst with Yokoj, he had the vardo transported to his new estate. This strikes me as kind of a crappy thing to do, since he had gotten it for Julian’s birthday, but he ended up taking it. Not the first “John is a bad father” story we’ve heard, certainly, and we don’t know the whole story. Maybe he took it there for Julian to enjoy when/if he visited. Regardless. Then, when John moved out, he left the vardo there, and Ringo bought the property and ended up with it.
Ringo even sold the back panel in an auction, and last anyone heard, it was in pieces. Kind of long, but an interesting story.
