If anyone has a spare twenty or so minutes, I found these gems on youtube of how I'm Stepping Out and Real Love were written. I know we have a few aspiring songwriters here, so I think it's nice to see another songwriters perspective, especially when that songwriter is, well, John Lennon . I like how John didn't rush the process and I really think it's a shame that he didn't get a chance to truly finish off either of these songs, but oh well.
What a beautiful voice.

I've always liked John's “middle eight” contributions to his own or other Beatles songs and I think this video shows how he came up with some of those ideas. It always seems difficult to not put together an entire thing at one time, but I like how John shows us that there doesn't need to be any rush and you can build a song out of seemingly unrelated parts.
I like how Paul did that too, like on Band On The Run . I wonder if there are any videos of how Paul put together his songs…are there any lost McCartney tapes? Let's see.

**Meant to post this to John video. How do I move it there, or can only mods do it?
Early Demo of (Just Like)Starting Over. Same Melody but different incomplete lyrics. Thought it shows some of his song writing process.
This is another early demo of Real Love . At the end at about 2:50 he does plays bit of which would end up being used in I’m Stepping Out.

This is a demo Make Love Not War from ’71 I think . I heard this actual bit or song dates back to the get back sessions I am yet to her a Beatles demo though. Wish they would release some of the out takes but I heard some of recordings were stolen. If anyone knows of bootlegs with the Get Back sessions please let me know. I find it fascinating how John would hold on to songs with a great melody for so long sculpting them into a final product. I always thought Mind Games was an underrated song. John actually says the hook of this at the end of the final Mind Games recording.

The demo is from Autumn 1970 and an edit of it was officially released in the 1998 box ‘John Lennon Anthology’ set. I’d have to get the books to see if it was played during the ‘Get Back ‘ sessions of January 1969. Off the top of my head i don’t remember it but thats not to say it wasn’t, so much was demoed and run thru that month.

Ya know the more I think about it the less I think that it was done at Get Back sessions. I saw it mentioned in a conversation on a blog. If it was done I think it was probably just the piano melody.
I was looking in the information section of the video I posted and it quoted Joe’s top section on the Mind Games song page. Just thought I’d let you know not sure if everyone is quoting one source of if the poster just copied the Beatles Bible because its so accurate.
