Hello! As you can notice, I am a new member here. After lurking for a while I decided to join this forum mainly to ask this question that’s been floating in my head for quite a while now: would John be as close to Paul if Stuart were alive? By all accounts John was very close to Stuart, so much so that Paul got jealous and him and Stuart even had a brawl once, one of the reasons being that Paul was jealous of John/Stuart. I think his relationship with Stuart can be compared with his relationship with Yoko because in both cases, Paul was unhappy there was a third person getting in the way in the John/Paul space. John and Stuart shared a lot of similarities and I feel Stuart was one guy that John could say almost anything to.
That’s not to say John wasn’t close to Paul either, I know they took a trip to Paris all by themselves when Stuart was alive and that deepened their friendship. But it’s interesting to think about if Paul and John would be as inseparable as they were if Stuart was alive. Apparently Yoko once said that she felt like she knew Stuart because John would never stop talking about him. I don’t want to pit the two friendships against each other, I just simply want to know what everyone thought of the two friendships and how would John and Paul’s relationship had been if Stuart were alive.
Apologies in advance if this topic has been discussed heavily elsewhere on this forum.

I think he would. Stuart had left the band approximately a year before he died. Though he and John corresponded, their physical distance meant they weren’t as close as they used to be. If I’m not mistaken, John wasn’t happy about Stu leaving the group, either. Whilst Paul was the odd man out when they were in Hamburg, mainly because the Exis didn’t like him (if I understood correctly, they didn’t trust people who were too nice, and reckoned Paul was just pretending to be that way). But back home, I’m pretty sure John and Paul were very close, even when Stu was around. There seem to be enough stories from people who said they were basically siamese twins from day 1. Which probably goes a long way in explaining why Paul never liked Stu: it must’ve really sucked to be put on the backburner like that, especially when it’s in favour of someone who didn’t share the passion or talent for music that brought John and Paul so close together.
