Hugely underrated song with great atmosphere and lyrics. But I think most Lennon fans rate it. Interesting how it relates to John himself in parts, particularly about “your mother left you when you were small.”

When I first heard the song, and didn’t know it was about Allen Klein, my first thought was that it was about John himself. The musical parallels to How Do You Sleep were immediately apparent, so I thought the first one was to Paul, and now this one is to John.

How Do You Sleep? has the stronger melody but I’m preferring Steel And Glass these days.

I like the way the album version peaks with John’s statements, emphasizing how cutting they are.
