Listening to this now–one of my favourite Lennonsongs as I’m always a sucker for ballads and this one’s simply beautiful with its exquisite instrumentation. One interesting thing I just noticed is that if you have it over headphones at blast-your-ears-out volume, you can hear the end snippet of a count-up: someone saying ‘Four’ before the music starts. I don’t think it’s John but I couldn’t definitely say.

I’m always getting this and ‘Look At Me ‘ mixed up. ‘Oh My Love’ is far superior.

I’m a little surprised to see George credited on the guitar, by the style you’d swear it was John. I was making comments about Western musical structure in the Here There And Everywhere thread and it’s worth comparing these two. Lennon’s is no less “correct” than McCartney’s, but his progressions are simpler and there’s much more air in the recording. Lennon likes descending cadences, it’s practically a signature style of his, and his melody floats over it in a similar way to HTAE but its the middle-eight that makes the difference. No modulation to another key, no rush to fit the melody in, no awkward chord progression to modulate back to the verse. John’s work sounds more “obvious” as a result, but no less beautiful.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Oooh he’s playing Lucy there, what a lovely tone. I can’t quite see if he’s fingerpicking or picking that.

Yeah, I was too. I confess after I read that I started listening more closely to the guitar part… I don’t take breaks from being a Harrifan, all right!

I have to comment on this song. It made me recognise and appreciate the world around me a lot more. To feel the wind on my face, to see the wind moving through the trees, to see rays of sunshine and little beautiful things in our everyday life. I started taking a keener interest in our natural world, and looking up at the sky. I love going for walks and taking in the world around me. Oh My Love is such a deep song. Love it so much. Sad but oh so beautiful.
