Paul might try to change “In My Life ” to McCartney/Lennon, and without John here to argue, it wouldn’t be fair.

Regarding authorship of the melody, Lennon’s and McCartney’s recollections differ. Referring to McCartney, Lennon said “his contribution melodically was the harmony and the middle-eight itself.” McCartney claimed he set Lennon’s lyrics to music from beginning to end, taking inspiration for the melody from songs by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. “I liked ‘In My Life ’. Those were words that John wrote, and I wrote the tune to it. That was a great one.

I think Paul has only ever looked to change the ones that are almost all of Paul’s alone, the ‘Back In The U.S.‘ album being the example to go by. I’d like to think the more debatable tracks he’d leave as ‘Lennon/McCartney’. However, I don’t see the need as surely no one is going to look at ‘Yesterday ‘, see John’s name first and think Paul was crap and less important.

It’s got nothing to do with money, it’s about getting recognition for her contribution. That it will stroke her ego on levels previously unheard of is not at all anything to do with it all in any way.

If she actually helped write it, I don’t see the harm in recognizing it, especially since John wanted to anyway.

Nor is it the first Lennon solo song to have a revised writing credit. Give Peace A Chance  generally appears credited to “Lennon” now, rather than “Lennon/McCartney” – though even that is wrong according to John, who would later express regret that he felt:

…guilty enough to give McCartney credit as co-writer on my first independent single instead of giving it to Yoko, who had actually written it with me.

Nor should it be forgotten that around the same time as Imagine , Paul was being sued by ATV/Northern Songs for starting to co-credit Linda on several of his compositions, taking 50% of the control of the publishing away from Northern Songs.

John may not only have been being “macho” by not giving Yoko her due credit at the time, but also trying to avoid the troubles Paul was getting into with Northern.

It’s not about royalties, but rather recognition of a contribution.

The “Lennon/McCartney” Beatles songs are different. That was an agreement between the teenage John and Paul. Paul may have later been irked by the way John’s name came first, but there was no dissent – at least, publicly – until after the break-up.

Seems an odd one considering all the tensions between the two countries. Hopefully, some ice skating and tea tray sledging will result in World Peace. heart

Also strange…considering this is the Olympics where countries compete against one another and waive their flags proudly.

If they waived their flags, wouldn’t that be in the spirit of Imagine

Waving is another thing.

John Lennon ‘s ‘Imagine ‘ being played at Japan’s suicide forest to stop people taking own lives
https://www.independent.co.uk/…..94446.html

A musician has been playing songs into Japan’s “suicide forest” in a bid to prevent people taking their own lives.

Kyochi Watanabe blasts rock, pop and hip-hop from speakers on the edge of woodland close to Mount Fuji.

He hopes that music – including John Lennon ’s “Imagine ” – may lift people out of despair at Aokigahara forest, which has become known as one of the world’s most prevalent suicide sites.

The 60-year-old has been waging an eight-year battle to banish the area’s morbid reputation.

The only thing I like about this song is that other people like it.

If I’m alone I’ll skip it…..If it’s being played in some ‘Kum bai ya’ context I’ll hear it out.

I know it’s the most cliché thing ever, but I think Imagine might be my favorite solo John song. There are a lot of strong contenders (Love, Stand By Me , Beautiful Boy, etc) but Imagine is just…

I think this song is one of the saddest cases of irony. A beautiful song about mankind living in peace, without possession or religion or war, sang by the man who would be tragically murdered nine years later. Who else tears up after the first line of lyrics?heart

Reporter: Beethoven figures in one of your songs. What do you think of Beethoven?
Ringo Starr: He’s great. Especially his poetry.

Oh John…a-hard-days-night-paul-10

All the lines. All of them. They’re just… the whole message of the song is that all the many ways we distinguish between ourselves, the things that make us “different” and “unique” are really meaningless, because we are all human beings and at our cores we are all the same. We all want to love and be loved, but people use things like religion, race, and nationality as excuses for hate. Without these things, we might see that we really aren’t so different, and we might learn to love each other. That was John’s beautiful dream, and he expressed it perfectly in the song. Also, I really like the song musically.

My favorite line is “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one.”

Ahh, screw it. I’m listening to Imagine right now, and it is absolutely my favorite solo John song. I’M A DREAMER JOHN. YOU’RE NOT ALONE.
