I think its a great song. One of my favourites. The Imagine album is a work of class by John Lennon.
I remember hearing the French sing it after the terrorist attacks, was so touching.
The process is under way to give Yoko a joint songwriting credit for Imagine . I think it’s a fair as John confirmed she made a big contribution. https://www.theguardian.com/cu…..ing-credit

I can see Paul being thoroughly pissed since Yoko, rightly or wrongly, has blocked every attempt of his to change the songwriting credits for the Lennon/McCartney numbers he wrote.

It isn’t fair either way, songs like Yer Blues should be credited to just Lennon and songs like Yesterday should be credited to just McCartney, maybe Ron Nasty or someone with similar intelligence can explain why every single Beatles song that was written by either Lennon or McCartney is credited to both of them. Even Give Peace A Chance has a Lennon/McCartney credit and I wouldn’t be surprised if Paul didn’t know what the hell that song was until it was released.

The problem is you are opening the door for Paul’s ego to go wild and start claiming false credits. True, Paul did not write Give Peace A Chance . They are credited to Lennon/McCartney because the two of them decided that all their songs would be credited that way. They wanted to be a duo.

I agree with @Expert Textpert. Especially since John is dead, Paul just needs to accept the partnership for what it is, and leave the Lennon/McCartney songs as Lennon McCartney.
My dad emailed me that article saying “heres another reason not to like Yoko,” but I believe that she did play a part in writing the song, so I see it as another reason to like her. She helped write an amazing song.

It’s not just Paul here, there are so many who helped either John and or Paul with their songs which John and Paul have themselves admitted, do they now get a credit and royalties? Does George now appear on ‘And I Love Her ‘? Opening up to changes could result in all number of claims that spiral out of control.
It’s an ego thing and nothing beneficial to humanity will come of this.

I guess the same could be said about Yoko getting credit for Imagine now. Its clearly fine as being credited to John, especially since she gets royalties from his songs already. Still, I’m not upset by this, because I believe John wouldn’t be. But if Paul started going around trying to break up Lennon/McCartney songs he would be upset.
Although I’ll stop there because I don’t want to build a point around what I think a dead person would think about a situation.

I don’t see Yoko getting credit as being the same as Paul getting credit. Paul has already received accolades for his work with The Beatles. This is just a nice gesture to make Yoko feel good, based on John’s wishes for her.

It’s utterly pointless as no one really cares apart from Yoko; very few will view Yoko in a better light, if anything it will give her critics more firepower in trying to grab some of John’s legacy and make it out as total hypocrisy considering how often she has blocked Paul.

If I recall correctly, Paul doesn’t want to take John’s name off the songs, he just wants his name to come first on the songs where he was the main writer.

Paul might try to change “In My Life ” to McCartney/Lennon, and without John here to argue, it wouldn’t be fair.
Regarding authorship of the melody, Lennon’s and McCartney’s recollections differ. Referring to McCartney, Lennon said “his contribution melodically was the harmony and the middle-eight itself.” McCartney claimed he set Lennon’s lyrics to music from beginning to end, taking inspiration for the melody from songs by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. “I liked ‘In My Life ’. Those were words that John wrote, and I wrote the tune to it. That was a great one.”

I just don’t see the point in trying to change all that so far down the line.

I think it does serve a purpose. As Beatle/John fans we all know the background to how Imagine was written and that John was inspired by Yoko’s words. I’m sure the majority of people listening to Imagine aren’t aware of this and especially those listening to it in years to come. I heard recently that Rita Coolidge had some pieces of her music “borrowed” which ended up in the song “Layla” and also the Carpenters song “Superstar”. She got no credit or royalties. That’s just wrong.

Yeah but Yoko gets royalies for Imagine anyway.
