Musically it is a very dull and boring song.
Dull and boring?? I think my heart just broke.
Would you say Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata is dull and boring? hehe well maybe you would and that’s ok, but I just have to respectfully disagree that Imagine is neither dull or boring. It is simple perhaps, but that’s what makes it such an incredible song. Not every great song needs animal noises or a guitar solo. If any song is going to define John’s career, I’ll vote for Imagine over and over until I turn blue in the face and collapse. btw, please play it at my funeral.
John may have backpedaled a little on his “no Heaven”, “no religion” etc statements but I think it’s pretty obvious from other tracks like I Found Out and God that John did not and could not believe in any religious hooey. Rather than write a song that says that explicitly, he implores the listener to consider the possibility – a necessary first step for anyone to change their point of view. We all know that if you hammer an idea at someone they are not comfortable with, they will turn away and ignore it, or even actively fight against it. Instead, he acknowledges the difficulty of it and extends an invitation. Live in harmony with nature and don’t kill each other. Why is that so hard for us?
I can’t help but feel that every word of Imagine was perfectly chosen and I would be hard-pressed to find *any* song by any artist that says so much in so few words. It’s about as perfect as you can get. I try to imagine a world that *really* heeded John’s words in 1971, casting aside all the religious and military baggage that had been handed down from generations before – that world would certainly be a much better place today. This dreamer is still dreaming…

I think this song sucks, the main reason is that it’s overplayed but also, where’s the guitar. I think this song would’ve heavily benefited from a guitar part.
I don’t like this song either, but, in all fairness, not all songs need a guitar part. Including this one.

Sure, not all songs need a guitar part, but think of all the Beatles songs that lack guitar:
Little Child (would sound better with guitar)
Eleanor Rigby (good)
Good Day Sunshine (would sound better with guitar)
For No One (good)
She’s Leaving Home (sucks)
Within You Without You (would sound better with a guitar)
Blue Jay Way (would sound better with a guitar)
Your Mother Should Know (would sound better with guitar)
The Inner Light (sucks)
Only A Northern Song (good)
Don’t Pass Me By (would sound better with guitar)
Good Night (sucks so bad, it makes the abovementioned songs sound like masterpieces)
Golden Slumbers (sucks)
Most of them either suck or would sound better with a guitar.

I’ll start by going through everything you disagree with and explaining why I feel that way:
I don’t like She’s Leaving Home mainly because it’s so depressing and it’s not my type of music and as well as being hands down the worst song on Sgt. Pepper , it’s one of the worst Beatles songs of all time. As for adding guitar, it would be interesting but I don’t think a guitar would fit.
For Within You Without You and Blue Jay Way , they’re average songs and I didn’t know whether to label them as good or bad, so I just said they would sound better with guitar.
For Only A Northern Song , I don’t know where they could fit a guitar part, I can’t see a good spot for a guitar part anywhere in the song.
As for Imagine needing a guitar, I think Imagine could’ve benefited greatly from having a guitar part. I could see John strumming chords along on his Gibson acoustic, maybe with George adding something on John’s Strat.

I find She’s Leaving Home a lovely transition song.
For OANS, maybe take the Anthology version and add guitar?
But on topic, Imagine is much like She’s Leaving Home : it doesn’t need anything else.

But Imagine does have animal noises in it…???????????
I know that a lot of homo sapiens live in denial of the fact that we are categorized in the animalia family, but IT IS BOTH A SCIENTIFIC AND SEMANTIC FACT THAT HUMANS ARE ANIMALS

Technically humans are animals but we are superior in every way, I think humans are more like gods than animals.
Maybe so but see who wins between you and a lion or an angry ferret.

If a human is unarmed, they are weaker than several animals, I can agree with that. Humans are still superior, we are civilized and can reason with people. For example, if your neighbor is blasting Lil Wayne at 2am and it wakes you up, you’re not going to maul him to death and eat him (unless if you’re a psychopath) whereas if you were an animal you would.
