The greatest album John Lennon ever made, but that’s my personal opinion. What You Got is absolutely great. #9 Dream has always been one of my favourites of John Lennon songs, and can absolutely compare with his best songs he made with the Beatles.
Good to see this album get attention, rather than Imagine and Plastic Ono all the time. #9 Dream is a highlight for sure.

I love this album so much. Possibly his best, or tied with Plastic Ono Band (only because Ya Ya and Beef Jerky are slight low points). It’s wonderful to see that other people actually appreciate it!

When I look at this tracklist I realise how good an album it really is. Going Down on Love isn’t terrible but it’s perhaps not the best opener, considering the strength of the other tracks. But apart from that very minor comment, everything is solid. Old Dirt Road, Bless You, Scared, etc are some of my most listened to John songs.

I wonder what this album would’ve been like if Yoko had been more present at the time of its making. Probably more stressed feeling. But I dunno.
I still blame her for the breakup of the Plastic Ono Band!
Oh, and it needs more Cowbell!

I absolutely adore this album
Going down on love is a monster. The singles are great. Scared seeps into your bloodstream and doesn’t leave your head for days – but you don’t mind. Steel And Glass chills me. What You Got is emotional and catchy all at once. And NLYWYDAO is haunting but beautiful.
I enjoy the ones I haven’t mentioned, too.
Probably in my top five post Beatles albums. For John, only Plastic Ono Band is better

I think it’s better than Plastic Ono Band. I’m more of a fan of Yoko’s Plastic Ono album than John’s.
I think you mixed up your Plastic Ono Band’s

I’m a huge fan of the production. It has a very ‘wet’ and comfortable sound and feel.

I just don’t understand why people think this is such a good John Lennon album. It’s angsty and emotional, but in a way that I can’t relate to.
Working Class Hero and Love are the only songs that I really like (although Love is a bit simple/repetitive). Honorable mention maybe to Look At Me or Isolation .
On the other hand, Yoko’s album is pure bliss.

If you’re looking for bliss, you’re certainly not going to find it in John’s Plastic Ono Band. That’s the reason i continue to return to when I’m feeling some type of way.

Usually if music has an angry feeling it also needs catharsis for me to enjoy it. John’s POB doesn’t have that. Also the songs are not his best. And in the lyrics he just seems to be complaining about his life.
God is probably one of the worst songs. So he doesn’t believe in anything. I don’t relate to that. And then I don’t like Mother either. His whining about being abandoned means something to him but not me.
A lot of John’s albums are just filler. But I once went through and counted the number of great John songs pre and post Beatles breakup and they were about the same.

Agreed. The message is to believe in yourself and shut out the noise.

Same. It’s his most powerful and relevant work because it’s so real.

Down On Love is perhaps John’s most overlooked song. It segues between sections effortlessly with an awesome groove and great playing from all musicians involved. Really sets the tone for the rest of the album.

Had this one on for a long drive, and noticed some things for the first time. One: John repeats the melody he uses to buil Old Dirt Road before the sweet release, and uses the same on the “I Love Her” section of Surprise Surprise
two, the descending riff in Beef Jerky sounds an awful lot like the riff in Let Me Roll It
