Ummm, yeah. I think you know what this is about…well, just read on.
On one sunny morning, I woke up and felt like I wanted to do a little John research on his relationship with a girl named Yoko. While I was surfing across good ol' safe google, I found a site on an album called Two Virgins by John and Yoko. Clicked on the link, and BAM! A humongous picture of two naked people appeared in the center of my computer. I shrieked, suprisingly only a little bit, and closed my laptop. About a min. after the incident, I opened my laptop up, and the picture was still there. Now, can anyone tell me as to why the 2 were naked on the album cover? Call me a scaredy-cat, but I am afraid to research the album fearing I will see the photo again. I don't mind seeing a John naked, but Yoko really creeps me out.
Btw, this happened at the beginning of last year when I didn't know much about the Beatles whatsoever, so don't assume I hardly know anything about them because I do:)

Unfinished Music No.1: Two Virgins is an album released by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1968. The result of an all-night session of musical experimentation in Lennon's home studio at Kenwood, [1] John and Yoko's debut album is known not only for its avant garde content, but also for its cover. The album's title came from the couple's feeling that they were “two innocents, lost in a world gone mad”, and because after making the recording, the two consummated their relationship for the first time.[2]
Or so says wikipedia.

Not every couple records music, then afterwards have sex for the 1st time, then take a naked picture for the album cover. But hey, they werevery unique and different, and people seemed to have upmost respect for them and didn't criticize them about the way they were.
I assumed they were tripping on acid when I first saw the photo. Drugs seemed popular back then…hehe.

Ah, Sunii… I envy you. A whole lifetime ahead of Beatle discoveries! The “Two Virgins ” cover is a wonderful place to begin!
Joe, our gracious host, has an article about the album and its cover on this very website: https://www.beatlesbible.com/1…..o-virgins/
I think John's two quotes at the bottom really explain his thinking and what his purpose was.

Yes, yes…..I have many more Beatle discoveries to come. Compared to my knowledge about the Beatles to your's, I would most likely be considered quite ignorant.
Interesting article. My question about the cover has been bugging me for about a year and I have been wanting it answered badly. Finally, I know why they were naked!

I've got a CD copy of the album. I wouldn't bother – it's avant garde rubbish, not nearly as creative as Revolution 9 or What's The New Mary Jane (and make of that what you will).
Funny tale: I bought it from a second-hand shop out of curiosity. When I got home I glanced at the receipt, and instead of listing Two Virgins by name, it had the words “Please don't return this to us”. Made me laugh anyway
I wrote a couple of other articles about the US and UK releases:

Do use the Google search box near the top of every page – if I've written something on a subject, it should be in there. And if I haven't written it yet, I will one day.

Have you noticed that no one ever mentions the nude picture of Paul on the giant poster than came with The White Album ?
"If we feel our heads starting to swell.....we just look at Ringo!"
Wasn't there a big white strip (no pun intended) placed over his *ahem* family jewels, though?

You're in the wrong forums. 😉 And I'll leave it at that.

I loved Ringo's quote about this album from The Anthology:
“He showed me this cover art, and I pointed to the Times, 'Oh, you've even got the Times in there,' like his d**k wasn't out … “
Then he laughs.
It was obviously a bit of a shock to the other lads.
That was the absolute funniest moment of the Anthology series.
That and when George was talking about the trip to the Phillipines and how the Beatles “watched ourselves not arriving at the presidential palace,” on television…

You can say that again, Skye.

I bought all the “Unfinished Music” albums when they got released on CD. I listened to each of them once and promptly sold them. They're crap.
I think “Unfinished Music #2: Life With The Lions ” is pretty good, as far as that sort of thing goes. I used to listen to a lot of noisy avant-garde jazz stuff, so I have a taste for it. I'll definitely never play it more than once a year though!
And “Two Virgins ” is indeed pretty terrible. I intend to hear “The Wedding Album ” someday.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Have you always been so uptight about nudity? Why?
Bringing you the best and worst of The Beatles, since 2007.
