John’s best post-fab album. The only one that comes close, in my opinion, is Sometime in NYC. I like the two heavy tracks: I Found Out & Well, Well, Well. I love how raw the sound of the record is. It is the complete antithesis to Abbey Road but in a good way. Favorite track is Hold On . A very personal song for John and Yoko that manages to seem universal and feel personal to yourself at the same time. John and Paul were both the absolute best at that…turning the personal into the universal then back again…all in a little over two minutes. COOKIE!

Offline After purchasing this album yesterday, I listened to it for the very first time and it absolutely blew me away. I had been holding back on buying Plastic Ono Band because I already owned eight of the thirteen tracks, but it proved itself to be worth every penny. It was my first time hearing “Hold On “, and I must say that it is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard period. A long-time favorite of mine is “Look At Me “, and the musical style of “Hold On ” reminded me of its own beauty. “God ” has been my all-time favorite Lennon tune for a long while now, so owning the album it was originally featured in is immensely exciting for me. There’s not one sub-par song on this debut solo album: I now understand why it is so popular amongst so many posters. I’m so happy to finally be in the POB loop!

Glad to have another convert! It’s definitely one of the greatest albums of all time, punk before punk existed yet so brutal and minimal.

Anybody else think a couple of the songs are kinda monotonous when John isn’t being really histrionic or pretty? Like “Remember” and “Love” in particular, to me they don’t seem to really…go anywhere.

Offline I think I have said wayyy earlier on this thread that I find Love a bore, to be honest. And I can’t really see it making the charts, either. The chorus is okay, but he drags the “love is…”for way too long.
Anyway, I can stand some Loves if there are pearls such as WCH or God to go with them… It’s quite interesting how all of John’s solo albums are so different; avatgarde gimmicking with Yoko, grinding, hearftfelt honesty, protest songs, beautiful love songs, songs about happy family life and one not easily identifiable consisting of curious mixture of pure pop songs, personal whinings and some surreal stuff, and his cover album, too. It’s really quite hard to identify John with a certain kind of “style”

Offline Yeah…it seems to me that “Mind Games ” was kinda like attempts to redo the “Imagine ” formula, only with songs that were less memorable. But then there’s those weird excursions in between like “Some Time in NYC” and “Rock & Roll”…definitely had a weird career for a half-decade there!

Offline I like “Love”. Just that melody and all, you can see he really desired to love somebody, and that he found that somebody.
As for his different albums, I actually love it about John, and better, that’s why we love Beatles. Every album was something new and different. The weird part is that I was into his solo carrer before getting massive into Beatles, that’s why I really love his solo work.
Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.

Offline This album is in my Top 10 Favorite Albums. I just love it. It’s so many different things: raw (I Found Out and Well, Well, Well), beautiful (Love and Hold On ), personal (pretty much every song on the album), etc. I couldn’t pick a favorite song on it as I feel that they’re all great in their own ways, but the one that’s sticking out for me today is Isolation . Just a wonderful, wonderful album.
If being an egomaniac means I believe in what I do and in my art or music, then in that respect you can call me that... I believe in what I do, and I'll say it.

Offline I heard “Love” playing in the supermarket two nights ago while grocery shopping and was astonished – don’t think I’ve EVER heard any songs from this album on the radio!
Or, at least, not since hearing “Working Class Hero ” during a Lennon/Beatles special programme a few weeks after 08/12/1980.

Me neither. In fact, the only Lennon solo song I’ve ever heard on the radio is “Imagine “. It’s a bit sad, really, how little consideration John’s solo work receives in my area… 
It could just be because the older people–who are the intended target audience for our ’60s and ’70s classic rock stations–still hate him for a statement he made 46 years ago!

Offline The only Lennon song I specifically recall hearing on AM radio throughout the 70s (when I ranged from 2-12 years old) is “#9 Dream”. (Wasn’t until years later that I identified it, however; I didn’t even know all four Beatles by name until 1979 or so.) During the same stretch, through pop radio exposure alone, I had at least passing familiarity with two Ringo singles, three by George, and at least a dozen by Paul. Makes you think!

Offline As for me, I have never heard a Ringo song on the radio. I would get a heartache if I did. Some Mccartney songs, the occasional Imagine , I remember hearing something from Harrison the other day, but never anything from Ringo. I guess he isn’t popular around here…
