I have zero belief that there will be a deluxe ‘Rock and Roll’, ‘STINYC’ or ‘Walls And Bridges ‘ (lost weekend and all that) as Yoko is fixated on ‘Imagine ‘ being the focal point on almost every John release from books to ice-cream. ‘JLPOB’ comes with much praise so we might see that, maybe ‘Double Fantasy ‘ as well, all followed by ‘Imagine ‘ at 50 where we get another new remix.I understand the difficulties with Some Time… as a Deluxe. It’s a difficult album full stop because it is so political and of its time. I think the suggestion that Yoko would have a problem with Deluxe’s of Walls And Bridges and Rock and Roll just isn’t borne out by the evidence, though. The second set of studio recordings she released posthumously was Menlove Avenue – one side of W&B outtakes and one side of R&R outtakes, nor were the albums under-represented on the John Lennon Anthology.
She hasn’t ignored those sessions because of “lost weekend and all that” before, so why would start now?
‘Menlove Avenue’ hasn’t seen the light of day since it’s initial release in 1986 (tho some outtakes were reissued later), ‘Anthology’ was a solo career-spanning box set which is different to individual album explorations – to ignore whole periods would have incredibly stupid.
The one song oddity since is ‘Here We Go Again’ but that can be explained by trying to sell ‘The U.S. V John Lennon ‘ and later ‘Gimmie Some Truth’, nothing like including an unreleased or rare track to entice the diehards to part with their money.

And how long did Beatles fans moan that they would never see the Hollywood Bowl on CD/digital, and it happened.
And Menlove Avenue would probably be a defunct album if we do get Deluxe editions of W&B & R&R in the future, anyway.
We’ll just have to wait to see whether your more cynical view proves correct, @meanmistermustard, or if I’m right that this could be the first of a series of Deluxe editions. Even at one a year, it’d be done quicker than Paul’s managing. Though I’m not sure I’m looking forward to the 6-disc Deluxe Two Virgins !!!

Yip. They waited, they saw the track listing, they heard the album, and they still moaned.
It wouldn’t surprise me if ‘Menlove Avenue’ was, at the time, Yoko’s way of having some connection to the material from the two albums that John recorded when they were separated.
I will be very happy if we get deluxe sets from all albums, would love to hear more ‘Mind Games ‘ and ‘WAB’ outtakes as they are my highlights from the ‘Anthology’, just don’t see Yoko having the interest in getting them out.
I’d forgotten about Paul’s Archive sets. I think I read somewhere ‘Red Rose Speedway ‘ was next but to be honest I doubt anyone cares any longer. With ‘Egypt Station’ album about to be released followed by ‘Imagine ‘ and ‘The Beatles’ boxsets, we can forget seeing it this year – if ever.
Cinema-wise, the nearest screening to me is in Braehead which is a pain to get to and from. Not sure therefore if I will go, will see if I’m off work on the Tuesday and Wednesday (as I wouldn’t be home till very late).

Not wanting to be pessimistic, @meanmistermustard, and cynical, but given Yoko’s age and increasing frailty, maybe those things together would be a reason for her to start doing Deluxe sets now – her last take on the ballad of John & Yoko.
I also wonder if that isn’t why we’re starting to see the Beatles’ deluxe sets, while there are still Beatles to approve them, you know…

Maybe.
I think it’s probably more down to the success of the ‘Pepper’ box and that Apple couldn’t ignore it’s 50th anniversary, they had to do something. John’s ‘Anthology’ set came not too much later than the Beatles so there is an echo from the past.

Oh, I think you’re right that last year’s Pepper played a big part, just as the success of Pepper has led to the expected White. But I do also think they know they’re not immortal, and that they’re constantly made aware of that as their contemporaries fall, that if you know box-sets are going to be done someday, dead or alive, get your version in before the buggers and/or time rob you of the opportunity.
Cinema-wise, I’ve sent Hannah a text to see if she wants go see it at Covent Garden Odeon. Haven’t seen her since the beginning of May. It’ll be a good excuse to catch up…

Does that mean we’ll see ‘Let It Be ‘ on DVD before all four have died or give up all hope as not even those following in the footsteps will release the damn film?

I will bet one of my shiny English pounds, @meanmistermustard, against one of your shiny Scottish Haggis (that is the correct currency, I think ), that Let It Be (film and album) will have to be done in 2020.
If we get a 50th Abbey Road in September next year (provided we’ve got a 50th White this year), hard to think that a 50th Let It Be won’t follow.

Depends if you want the haggis dead or alive – live Haggis are very rare and therefore very expensive.

£100 for the six-disc box set, ltd clear vinyl, Blu-ray of the Imagine /Gimme Some Truth films, and a poster seems like relatively decent value, although it’s still very pricy. The Blu-ray and poster are essentially free if you were thinking of buying the other two items anyway.
There’s a version of the collector’s deluxe Imagine John Yoko book, limited to 300, signed by Yoko. Almost everywhere has sold out, and it’s normally around £400 if you can find one, but for some reason it’s cheaper on Amazon.ca – CAD $439, about £262 plus postage. I checked with customer service and they confirmed it’s the signed version, but there’s always a danger that Amazon are over-promising and won’t be able to fulfil all orders. Anyway, in case anyone has deep pockets:
Featuring a bookplate signed by Yoko Ono, this special signed collector’s edition is clothbound, debossed with tipped in “polaroids” front and back, and has a ribboned portfolio containing a numbered print exclusive to the special signed collector’s edition.
Personally signed by Yoko Ono in a numbered edition of 300.
The non-signed version is about £100 cheaper, and doesn’t seem to have the Polaroid cover. It sounds like it comes with a different print too.

Interesting that the Evolution mixes are in mono (as are those that appear on CD4 of the set). I suppose it creates an easier flowing montage if you’re switching between mono and stereo sources.

I’ve got the deluxe book and the six-disc box set on order. I’m thinking of cancelling the box set and just downloading the audio files though – I don’t have a surround sound player, so the quad and 5.1 mixes are no use to me. Whenever I get box sets I tend to rip the contents and never play the discs again (cf Sgt Pepper 2017), so I could save some cash.
I also suspect the book in the box set will duplicate a lot of the info that’s in the standalone book, though it’s impossible to tell at this stage. Decisions…
Anyway, I published a news item outlining all the tracks and formats (I think it’s all correct): https://www.beatlesbible.com/2…..e-box-set/
