No idea if Imagine toothpaste exists either but i can see Yoko saying “why not brush your teeth for peace” and other claptrap nonsense. Its like Apple and the licensed Beatles junk they endorse, no doubt we will eventually get offical Beatles marshmallow pressers, remote control tv covers, and onion grips.

I’d be impressed if they convinced anyone of a need for any of those, particularly a Beatles marshamallow presser.

That gave me a chuckle.

Love this!…I wish some super-energetic ‘bibler (OK, “forumpudlian”) could go through all 11000 of mmm’s posts and compile in one place all of the Beatles paraphenalia he’s imagined over the years.

In “Loving John,” May Pang says that many of the tracks for Double Fantasy were written while she was with John, and that even though they came out of her relationship with him, after John was brainwashed by Yoko’s magic and went back to the Dakota, he changed the lyrics to be about Yoko.
Has anyone read this, and do you think there is an ounce of truth in it?

Most of the tracks were either pieced together as John went thru the late 70’s, you can hear the development of them as he tries out lyrics and takes lines from one and turns it into another, or weren’t written until John went to Bermuda so i would personally doubt it. It may very well be that John had certain lines written down from during his time with May and he used them in a few of the songs.

Interesting to read Jack Douglas say that he and John had a similar initial running order in mind where it would have been all of John’s tracks on one side and all of Yoko’s on the other. Yoko vetoed their idea and said that if you listen to John you have to listen to Yoko and they all agreed including David Geffen.

Funny how that changes for the digital era. Now people can add just the John songs to their music player…or just the Yoko songs.

You could have made a mix tape. I used to record songs from vinyl onto cassette.
You could have done but it was a lot more effort that programming a CD player or making up a playlist on your iPod. However more fun too. I made up cassettes when I was young and put so much time and effort into the running orders.

I always thought Double Fantasy , with a combined track list from Milk And Honey , would’ve been an amazing comeback album. All the content was there, and the story of his life with Sean and his re-emergence into public life could’ve been told via the track listing like an evolving story.
I Don’t Wanna Face It – Forcing himself to face up to his old ways.
Watching The Wheels – Deciding to let it all go for a slower paced life.
Beautiful Boy – Why he decided to let it all go.
Woman – See above.
Dear Yoko – See above.
Borrowed Time – Accepting he is older, and actually preferring it. “I know she loves me”.
Cleanup Time – Cleaning up his life enjoying being at home. I’d use the stripped down version.
I’m Stepping Out – Growing restless of being a househusband.
(Just Like) Starting Over – His decision made. Life together is precious, but it’s time to re-emerge.
Nobody Told Me – John back in full flight with fun wordplay just like the old days.
I’m Losing You – A moment of insecurity.
Forgive Me (My Little Flower Princess) – The response to the above song.
Grow Old With Me – An ode to his life.
Central Park Stroll – A bonus filler track just like Her Majesty because why not?
An incredibly solid album when you put them both together. I guess you could order the album a little differently if required, but I think this plays quite well. I Don’t Wanna Face it wouldn’t be my ideal opener but in terms of the themes it has, I’m fine with it being there.

fantastic tracklist but I like I’m Stepping Out or Just Like Starting Over as the opener
I know what you mean. However the ‘I can sing for my supper but I just can’t make it’ lyric among others sealed my decision. He hadn’t yet embraced the househusband persona yet. I like the idea of a John evolving in this track list.

I think the Yoko tracks from this period are often better than the John tracks, with the exception of Watching The Wheels , Woman , (Just Like) Starting Over, and Grow Old With Me .

Just wanted to say (this is a good place as any) just how much I like this Cleanup Time lyric: “no friends and yet no enemies, absolutely free.” That line has applied to my life many a time. A liberating way to look at yourself and your circumstances.

I’ve been enjoying this in youtube: John Lennon ‘s Final Masterpiece: DF Recording Sessions. Though i don’t think Double Fantasy is a masterpiece at all , the masterpiece is listening to John working and producing his own stuff, or Yoko’s.

In my opinion, if John were still alive he would’ve eventually done another Plastic Ono Band style album, probably without the same level of angst but deliberately stripped down and without the excessive production we have now.

I bought Double Fantasy the weekend it came out. I have to say hardly ever played it, very disappointing, from the fact that half the tracks are Yoko to John’s contented ‘house husband’ subject matter. I know it took on a new meaning shortly afterwards but I found it a very mediocre epitaph. (Just Like) Starting Over is the best of a poor bunch. After all the criticism of Paul’s ‘Granny $h1t’ this album is knee deep in the same crud I’m afraid. No teeth, no bite.
