Whilst it’s nice to speculate about john its important to note that he was physically in really bad shape at the time of his death. So much so that it shocked the coroner beyond his injuries during the autopsy.
@castironshore
Could you (or anybody else) elaborate. It’s the first time I hear this.

It is nice to speculate, @castironshore. Do you have anything other than speculation to base your assertion that John was “physically in really bad shape … So much so that it shocked the coroner beyond his injuries …” on?
I have seen the death certificate. There is nothing in that to base such a suggestion about John’s general health there. The full autopsy report has, to my knowledge, never been revealed, nor am I aware of any interview with the doctor who conducted the autopsy.
Is your assertion based on speculation, or is there an interview with the doctor who conducted the autopsy where (s)he says that that I’m not aware of?

If John were still here today, I suspect his position might be similar to Paul’s – huge audiences for live appearances from people wanting to see a legend before he dies, and pretty irrelevant in all other aspects.
If we’re into the realms of “What if”s, the interesting thing would be “What would have happened if the 4 of them had got together again?”

From all accounts John was in good shape when he died, if anything for some of those around him he had taken the healthy living a bit too far. There are rumours that he was back on drugs as was Yoko but nothing substantially proven.

I’ve read in more than one book about lennon those comments attributed to the medical examiner. The autopsy report has been suppressed for some reason (anyone know why?) so my bad – it probably comes under “speculation”…. but i think there is something to it.
I also remember reading one of the police officers on the scene and nurses at the hospital commenting with surprise on how physically frail lennon was, certainly in those last photographs of him he looks like he has aged dramatically… well at least to me.

He looked thin but that was supposedly due to the diet he was on (microfiber?); others say it was due to drug use.
As with much of John’s later years so much conflicting information has been dispatched (including from John and Yoko) that its almost impossible to sort out the truth.

It should be mentioned that Double Fantasy was getting mediocre reviews in the short time between its release and John’s death. But I’m sure he would not let that bother him and he would still crank out many albums. The main question I wonder is would the John/Yoko duo continue as on DF? Or would that have been a temporary collaboration and he’s go back to true John albums?
Maybe if John and Yoko had another baby, he’s go back to being a house husband. But considering the difficulty they had with having Sean, I do not think that likely.
I’d like to think he would take part in the Anthology series with the Threetles in the 90s. Maybe they would have created a totally new song instead of reworking Free As A Bird and Real Love . It would be bad publicity for him if he refused. But on the other hand, John was never one to shy away from controversy.
I do believe John would have made some great music videos to go with his music. His sense of art and input from Yoko should mean some videos equal or better than those from the others. If he still liked to draw, he could even set one of his songs to some sort of animation. At least I hope this would be true. I know I hate watching “The John Lennon Video Collection” in which the same recycled footage of John and Yoko walking around is reused in every song.
Since John loved New York, it would seem inevitable that he would finally host SNL or be a musical guest. It’s sad and ironic that he was the only Beatle not to appear on that show.
I speculate that John would not go on tour at least early on. Even in the early 70s, he did not seem interested in this except for the one-off performance here or there. Maybe he would change his mind if he gained more confidence or saw the extensive touring done by Paul.
And like someone said earlier, he’d put out many interesting tweets on Twitter or comments on a website. Some would get him in trouble.

I think he’d miss how easy things were when he had Paul alongside him and want to try that again….Maybe he already felt that way…….
Like old lovers we all wonder if we met again whether the sparks would fly……If John and Paul could have had some decent time together alone who knows what beauties would have emerged.
One thing’s for sure……Keith Richards would have thought twice before bescumbering Pepper with John still around.

Don’t forget Yoko was already 42 years old when Sean was born, and 47 when John was killed. So other children would not have been likely. As for the rest: I have no idea. It’s nice to speculate about it, though.

I wouldn’t read too much into the double fantasy reviews. Time has shown that john’s songs on the album remain much loved.
On a couple of occasions the songs are as good as any from his solo career “Watching The Wheels ” “beautiful boy” “i’m losing you”. Like paul i think harrison’s comment about johns writing going “off” towards the end of his life was jumping the gun a bit.

Here’s what I think would happen:
He and Yoko would go on tour (possibly world tour) in early 1981 to promote Double Fantasy , although I doubt the Milk And Honey tracks would get released. Free As A Bird , Real Love and Now And Then are recorded and become tracks on his following albums.
He and Paul reconcile sometime in the mid eighties, and play on Live Aid together.
By the end of the decade, he is on good terms with all three Beatles and they reunite for a one off single When We Was Fab. They reunite again in 1995/6 to do the Anthology project, which produces three completely different songs.
He would obviously have something to say about 9/11 and the ongoing conflicts following it.
And finally, he might have quit smoking and even become vegetarian like the others.

There is actually a common misconception that John was a vegetarian. His picture is on the wall as a vegetarian in a local vegan restaurant that I go to.
John ate a macrobiotic diet, which includes fish. And he went off the diet and ate pizza on occasion.
John thought it was safe to smoke cigarettes because of the health benefits of his macrobiotic diet.

This idea, while appetising, I always find to be hollow fantasy.
In my opinion, had John lived, the would have been lucky if they’d stopped suing each other, themselves, EMI, and Capitol, by the end of the decade.
There was one of those lawsuits just in the discovery stage at the time of John’s death. Part of the discovery process, and something that came to light after John’s death, was that in negotiating a contract with Capitol when his EMI/Apple contract ran out in 1976, Paul had negotiated himself a higher royalty from Capitol for Beatles recordings than John, George and Ringo were getting.
John was angry enough after finding out Paul had been buying up Northern Songs shares behind his back in 1969. I cannot imagine John’s reaction at discovering that Paul’s was getting a higher royalty on every Beatles recording than him. I certainly don’t think that, had John been alive, it could have had anything but a negative effect on both their personal and professional relationships.
Had John lived, I think the ’80s Beatles legal cases could well have been more divisive.
