On Tuesday morning, WMGK host John DeBella played a short clip from 1975 in which John Lennon made a guest appearance on an old Top 40 radio station in Philadelphia. Hear is a podcast of the show’s highlights – start it at 8:22 where DeBella sets up the clip. I hope you can play this no matter what country you are in. He has several funny lines – my favorites were, “I’d like to meet the two!” and the very last one – don’t want to give it away. Enjoy some typical John.
I doubt anyone would get away with what John said at the end nowadays. Very very funny.

A girl who went to a Catholic school made an $11 pledge to a campaign and challenged her Catholic school girl friends to also make a pledge. John says the girls should get up off their knees.

I didn’t know that the Kennedy Center celebrated dead people. I thought they stuck to living people. Well, off to the Things We Learned Today thread…

Saw this quote a couple of weeks ago and it was one of the best quotes attributed to John I’ve seen in a long time, no idea of the original source.
“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”

A few days ago, I visited a lecture by a composer of contemporary music and he told about an international meeting of composers from every country in the world he had attended earlier. At some point, the question arose which composer they all knew. There were exactly two of them: Johann Sebastian Bach and John Lennon .
As much as I wished they had also known the rest of the Beatles, I find it amazing that composers from all over the world, with completely different backgrounds, different ages, that compose for different genres – that everyone of them knows John regardless. It speaks for itself, really.

Began the first few minutes* of the ninth of October listening to a few Lennonsongs which I had on my device; I hadn’t listened to them in forever and forgot how wonderlovely they are. John’s voice had such a great timbre to it, no ketchup necessary.

So I had a really weird google session recently. I started out googling the lyrics to the song Dream A Little Dream Of Me and then wound up finding an interview with Michelle Phillips where she told a story about Cass Elliot meeting John Lennon .
Cass was famously a huge fan of John Lennon . Recall the first time she met John Lennon and how he surprised her.
Michelle Phillips: Yeah, he woke her up in the middle of the night. I wasn’t there so I’ve only heard it second hand. We had done the Beatles song, I Call Your Name . So when John, Denny and Cass went over to England, Cass was asleep in her hotel room and the boys had been out with Andrew Oldham and they ran into the Beatles and brought them back to the hotel.
In I Call Your Name , Cass had this part in the song where she said softly, “John, I love you.” It was very subtle but how subtle is that? “John, I love you.” Anyway, they were up in the suite and they went to Cass’ room and John (Lennon) leaned over her and said (whispers), “Cass, I love you.” She was sleeping and John woke her up. It had to have been a mind-blowing experience for her.
Just thought it was a cute little story and really sweet of John.

Interesting, and in-depth, look at the relationship between John and Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner. Extracted from a new biography of Wenner by Joe Hagan. Wenner has unfollowed Hagan on Instagram.
