Thanks for the pics Ex Tex!

Was Coming Together earlier and realised It’s Johnny’s Birthday in six days.

You’re welcome. Yes, I’d forgotten his birthday was coming up. I tend to celebrate death days of dead people more than I do birthdays.

Thanks!

As much as I love George, one can’t deny Johnny’s a good-looking man. a-hard-days-night-john-6

Aesthetically speaking, I favour John of the ’65 vintage:

I like his awesome hair. That cheeky side part and nearly-overlong fringe.

P3pperish is right, John’s ballad singing on ‘To Know Her Is To Love Her’ is wonderful.

Yeah, that’s a good song. John’s voice has a different quality on some of those earlier songs–like “Anna” for instance. You can’t really recognize it’s him.

I like all versions of John but if I had to pick a favorite, I’d say 1969-1971 (the period of time from white suit and long hair/beard/Live Peace In Toronto to short hair/Ascot/Imagine sessions).

^ Those pics are great, especially the ’65 and ’67 ones. My favourite is this one:

His vocal on the ‘Rock and Roll’ outtake is fantastic as well – very different feel to the Beatles version. John had a great voice for the oldies.

T-minus three days!

An exchange that may or may not happen:

ME: Silly Mum, can we stop in the grocery shop? I want to get a cake.

SM: A cake? For what?

ME: It’s Johnny’s Birthday

SM: Whose birthday?

ME: John Lennon , of course!

Duly noted.

Ahhh the evil of Harrifans/Harrifiends! Dragging George into everyplace, even a thread sacred to JWL! Okay, back to John.

You posted some wonderful photos on the previous page, ExTex – thanks. The one above blew me away for its timelessness. That could be any teeneager in a skate park today.

Except today’s teenager would have groovier trucks and wheels.

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Here’s an interesting look listen at Real Love (I like this version better than the Beatles one– it’s purer):
