This is probably the best answer you’ll get, @Jenna L, as it comes from John’s optometrist when asked by Forumpudlian @Into the Sky with Diamonds in 2012 about the stories that John was legally blind:
No way!!! From one who knows first hand. Legally blind only rates to best corrected vision. So many people think they are legally blind because of their extremely poor vision, but as long as the glasses (or contact lenses) correct them to normal acuities they are not legally blind. If there is an underlying disease process that precludes the eye from seeing any normal levels, even with glasses, or contacts, they qualify to be legally blind. (Either by reduced visual acuity – the inability to read smaller letters, or by a restricted field of vision – tunnel vision)
It would be true that without glasses John’s vision (he was quite nearsighted) would have qualified him to be legally blind, but so would I, my wife, and probably up to 30 to 40% of my patients. John’s vision with his glasses, made to my ultra-accurate prescription, was as good as 98% of the population. – so not legally blind.
“Legally blind” is an often misused term that by definition only applies to greatly reduced best corrected vision, that people incorrectly use to define their poor uncorrected vision.
Hope that clears up your question.
Gary
The above quote is from this thread about John’s eyesight, and there is also this thread on the subject.
Hopes this helps.
Not a problem, but questions are best asked in the Miscellaneous Questions threads that exist for the group (found in All Together Now section) and each individual Beatle (in their respective individual sections). All are pinned and can found close to the top of each section.
Welcome to the forum, BTW. I haven’t had the chance to say it yet.

There was a girl who was in a play with me in middle school, and she refused to wear her glasses onstage even though she could barely see without them. I would always tell her, “Please, please don’t be like John!” but she never listened.

I hate the texture of corduroy (as well as velvet) they’re both fabrics that feel disgusting, particularly when you rub your hands across them, my hands always feel very hot after I touch them.

Imagine , if 30-40 years after your own death there were online message boards still talking about you. That’s what’s going on with John Lennon and members of the BB. Mind bending to think about really. Love you, John.

He never got to discover the internet, or really even watch Sean grow up.
This is the hardest part for me.

If you listen to Beautiful Boy in context, it becomes such a heartbreaking song.

The monster’s gone, he’s on the run and your daddy’s here.
Anyway, how good is Nobody Told Me. One of my absolute favourite John songs. Good silly fun.

Beautiful boy is one of those Lennon songs that hits me the hardest… I remember I once realized that Julian and Sean were the same age, if I remember the quote correctly, as John was the 2 times he lost his mother, when they lost their father (5 and 17) .
And it’s weird for me, who was born a long time after John’s time, to think that until after somewhere in February 2021 John has still been longer alive than dead. Time is confusing in general.
That’s enough of depressing writing for me late at night.
