I just wish there could be a one-post summary with a “yes” section and a “no” section that lays out the thoughts for each point of view. Just a NICE, concise side-by-side comparison that takes emotion out of the equation that people could use to form their own opinion.
If that is pie-in-the-sky thinking, just smash a lemon one in my face.
I’d like to see a post like that for the “Did John have gay leanings?” thread. Again, if that is pie-in-the-sky talk, make this one chocolate.

Unfortunately things are not that simple, or easy.

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been..  I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene..  Banjos!  Banjos!  All the time, I can't forget that tune..  and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Like I said on the “gay leanings” thread…  WTF is going on with all these arguments some of the newer members keep starting?  Be nice!  PEACE AND LOVE!  It’s a freaking Beatles forum!

I think people are probably just used to all the Blue Meanies they encounter on other forums.

Expert Textpert said No one forced him to stay in his bed in The Dakota listening to the radio and reading magazines.

If you read old Beatle fanzines, you’d discover that there were quite a few Dakota Scruffs (they didn’t call themselves that, but you catch my drift) who saw John out and about quite often from Sean’s birth until 1980. Their accounts tell a very different tale from what Seamen/Green/Goldman/Giuiliano (and even May Pang) would have you believe. They described John as friendly and fit, looking happy and spending quite a bit of time with Julian when he was on school holidays.
I highly recommend to those of you who are on the fence about the Dakota Days to keep an open mind and try that idea on for size.

That’s interesting.  I’d love to read those stories.

I used to have a bunch of fanzines, but sadly I got rid of them sometime in the late ’80s (along with some priceless memorabilia, like a Yellow Submarine lunch box and a Listen to This T-Shirt). The stories are to be found around the web, though. Here’s one from the Meet the Beatles for Real blog. I especially liked this quote:

Over the next year and a half, I was to see John about a dozen times. Sometimes he was alone, and sometimes he was with Yoko. I couldn’t help noticing that when John was alone he seemed a little nervous–he walked at a fast clip–but when he was with Yoko he was patient, calm and reassured. I loved to watch them walking down 72nd Street together. They always held hands.

That was a wonderful story. I got the same peaceful feeling from Yoko in the story that I get from reading things she has written. I think she is a very wise soul.

I’m late to this, as usual, but thanks to those who helped dampen the flames. It’s good to have civil discussions.

^Yeah, me too :/ Dunno what’s been happening to this forum lately, it used to be the place to come to get some peace and quiet.

Love and love and love, everyone, is all you need.

It’s that time of the year, I guess. Maybe warmer weather will brighten everyone’s mood. Spring tends to do that.

Or maybe we all just need more sex, I dunno. ahdn_paul_01a-hard-days-night-george-10

Hummmm, so a new twist to did John love Yoko. Did anyone document them doing it in the road? Probably not since no one would have been watching them per Mccartney’s promise.

Yeah so we can scan the internet for stories like this? I wish there was more sources. I want to ask the Coneys they chartered the sailing trip to Bermuda. They own a Marina in my town on LI, but I don’t wanna seem nosey. Maybe work it into a sailing conversation lol?

I think this quote from Yoko explains a few things:

“When he was alive I used to always try to keep my independence because he was such a strong, powerful energy. With the whole world behind him, by the way. So if I didn’t keep my independence, I would have been swallowed up. Whenever somebody calls me Mrs. Lennon I used to say “Mrs. Lennon? I’m Yoko Ono, thank you.

“John also encouraged that in the sense that it was good I was independent so we can have a dialogue. Then after John died, somehow, when people called me Mrs. Lennon I felt good about it…Whenever I do something now my first concern is, ‘Do you think John is liking this?’ I don’t want to do anything that would shame his name or embarrass him.”

From a 1983 interview.

What changed to allow the use of his image in crap tacky adverts and s**t products that cheapen his name (Imagine ice-cream)?

I personally dont believe Yoko had anything to do with Johns murder, i don’t believe for a second she is or was that kind of person. Probably best if i dont say what type of person i think she is.
