I just came across this. Jonathan King, the producer who discovered Genesis and was convicted of having sex with teens, claims that he was sexually abused by John Lennon and that later Lennon attended his bisexual orgies.
It was a very open time. I had illegal sex, below the age of consent, with John Lennon – except, then I was the “abused” and he was the “abuser.”

I’m not gay, but have no issue with John Lennon possibly having gay leanings. Same with Elton John, or Robert Halford of Judas Priest. It’s all about the music, not the man!

Thank you. As a gay person it really should make no difference to whether you like him and his music or not – and also, who cares? You’re not the one in bed with him so you shouldn’t care if he’s straight or gay, bi or pan, British or Greek.
That’s why this thread is a bit ridiculous imo.

It’s sorta interesting, I suppose, if you’re interested in the man behind the music, just like any other aspect of his life or personality. But I agree, at the end of the day you gotta remember what it’s all about – the music.

So I’m not allowed to be intrigued by my favorite artist’s sexuality? Respectfully, I find your position a bit ridiculous.

My position is such because it drives home the point we’re somehow different, which as has been proven, the feeling of being different, or not ‘normal’, is one of the factors as to why our mental health problems and suicide rates are so high.
Being intrigued about it should, in a world that is totally fair and equal, be about as niche as being intrigued into what brand of pen he liked, or which variety of apple he likes best.
I know your point of view comes from a good place – and certainly not a place of homophobia or anything like that – I’m just saying things like this do drive home the point that we’re somehow different, and in turn drives up our suicide rates. It’s the next step in the fight for LGBTQI+ rights – we’ve (mostly, in some places of the world) got rid of overt discrimination – now it’s time for the next step: getting rid of the covert discrimination.
Edit: Oh I also forgot to mention – it’s about the music, first and foremost. *ringo peace’n’luv fingers*

John beat a man within an inch of his life for suggesting he was gay. Hardly the same as what brand of pen he liked in John’s eyes. We have to put being gay in the historical context of John—which was one in which he hid his gayness to the point where we had to have this thread to even arrive at the conclusion he was gay.
As a straight person curious about John being gay, I should be allowed that curiosity without being told I’m ridiculous.

Ok, we find out John’s gay right now. What would change, what would matter about that.
Like trying to go into their therapy sessions.
Also bi and gay aren’t the same thing yet people are equating the two all over this thread. This thread title is inacurate.

If two men are having sex that would qualify as gay sex. There is no such thing as bi sex. A bisexual has both kinds (hence the term bi).
What would it change? It opens up an entirely new dimension for me. I suppose if you are gay or bi you don’t care. But I think showing that John was bi and how he dealt with it could be helpful to both gay and straight people.

That’s incorrect.

There are already plenty of people being open about it, we don’t need to force people who don’t want to be open to be open. Someone sharing their sexuality should be their choice.

How exactly is that incorrect? If a man is doing a man, how is what he is thinking different based on whether he is gay or bi? It’s the same act.

You are always most welcome here, ET, and I would hope you feel as such.
We are definitely not judging you, we are simply expressing our views. A debate is never fun or useful if the opponent quits half-way through, and I hope you don’t. If you do not like our generation because of the views that two of us hold, that is definitely a shame!
And if you actually want me to be a “pedantic millennial” – I’m not actually a millennial

My problem with being ganged up on in this thread is that you guys are nitpicking and looking for any reason possible to call me out on my supposed ignorance or bias as a straight person, when all I am doing is expressing a healthy curiosity about John’s sexuality. It does make me feel extremely unwelcome on this forum that a gay person (and a moderator at that) would tell me I am ridiculous for being interested in John’s bisexuality. Do I have to come out as gay or bi before you guys will leave me alone? You don’t have the right to tell me what I can and can’t discuss as a straight man. If LGBTQ culture is this black-and-white, judgmental, and closed-minded then I definitely would not feel comfortable coming out in such an environment.

For some people the man and the music are separate, and what happens behind the scenes in their favorite musicians lives are inconsequential. For others, the man and the music are inseparable, and every detail you can fond from somebody’s life is relevant to the listening experience. I respect both ways of thinking.
I’m not sure this debate can be settled, since it is essentially an argument between two fundamentally opposite viewpoints. I’m sure ET meant no offense when he expressed his interest in Lennon’s sexuality, and neither did holey when he expressed that he doesn’t give two s***s about it. Both are fine.
