^^The first thing I managed to click on in that video was the bit with “Yoko wants a mic”, I said aloud “of course Yoko wanted a f*****g mic”, clicked the big red X in the top right corner, and turned off my laptop.
Oh Yoko (ooooohhhh yoookkkoooo) you do make it a bit difficult sometimes.
And in relation to the ‘did John like lads on the side?’. As I’ve said before, I don’t particularly care. Wouldn’t surprise me if he did, would’t shock me if he didn’t. We’ll never get an actual answer to this unless we get some real photos or video of John reacting in any kind of intimate way to some guy, and no the McLennon edits don’t count!

I agree ASJ. Whether he was bi or not,it’s immaterial. It’s all about the music
I understand what you’re saying. However, I don’t think it’s a necessarily a bad thing if people speculate a bit. I say this because I often feel connected with not just the output of an artist, but personality traits and elements of the artist themselves. For instance, I like Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings and they stand alone quite well, but another reason I really connect with her art is that I know enough about her personal story to find it really interesting. Knowing that makes her art that much more impactful. I think it’s pretty common for people to identify with art not just on the basis of the art alone. I only speculate about this because I find it really cool and interesting that an artist who’s output has engaged me emotionally might possibly also have something else in common with me. There isn’t any concrete evidence and I acknowledge that, but it’s an interesting “what if” for me, and I think this thread was started in the same spirit of “what if.” I don’t think it’s any different than knowing that John’s personal tragedies in his early life shaped and influenced his art. Again, just my 2 cents. I don’t claim to be right or wrong, it’s just my opinion.

Don’t stray from the gay.
I’m very much with ASJ in that I couldn’t care less if John was gay or even just curious, makes zero difference to my enjoyment of his music or opinion of who he was.

It’s an open forum and I first posted in relation to a comment about Yoko singing. A reply was subsequently made to my post and so I replied expressing my viewpoint of the discussion in hand.

I cannot see how anyone can not find Yoko moaning, shrieking, shouting, whining and whatever else “John” anything but annoying.
There are a lot of people who think it’s funny. This video doesn’t have 2.7 million views because people appreciate her vanguardismo.

I don’t think it matters if John was bi or gay or straight, either, nor do I think it should change people’s opinions of him, or who he was, or the impact and art he made for the world. How does what you want to f**k add depth to who you are? Attraction is innate.

Well it may be true that knowing whether or not John was gay or bi has no relevance to enjoying his music; but two things wrong with this statement:
1) it’s relative & subjective, not absolute (i.e., some/many may disagree).
2) enjoying an artist’s art is not all we do concerning that artist — sometimes for other reasons (some related to their status as an artist, some not), we are curious about their personal habits, their lifestyle, their life experiences, their thoughts & opinions about matters other than art; etc.
The specific thing about John in this regard: if he was bi, he was not an open bi, but a closeted bi (other than to a couple of close friends). That would indicate that while he was fearlessly honest about everything else under the sun and willing to take the heat about it with defiance, he was afraid to come out on this one thing.

1. The subject of whether or not John was bisexual is not subjective. He either was or was not or was unsure. What John presented to the world as far as we know* is that he was heterosexual. Due to this, anybody may think he was bisexual, but that would be nothing more than speculation. Thoughts do not make facts. 2. Can it really be said that John was “fearlessly honest about everything else under the sun”. Do we know that he was fearlessly honest? The depth of one’s veracity cannot be judged from the outside by their own words or even actions. An individual may not truly know the depth of their own honesty, so it is much less realistic to assume the intensity of another person’s (especially a stranger).
I will agree, however, that if John had been bisexual, the pressure from society to suppress that would add an interesting depth to him as a person, but not him being bi alone. But, again, any talk of that is nothing more than a figment of the imagination.
*all accounts confirming this are not only vague, but are also from third parties and not John himself (enigmatic quotes being twisted do not count), so how reliable are they?

I’ve actually heard that. I believe it was part of a ‘Beatle Chatter’ session which was specifically meant to be a load of mostly spoken-word rubbish, although it often gets billed as part of the ‘Think For Yourself ‘ sessions. I’m not too sure though…

This session was one of the first tracks that blew up my perception of the recording process, as Rubber Soul was the first album I acquired sessions for. I just LOVE how Paul and John just can’t seem to get the harmonies on “rectify all the things that you should.” John mutters curses under his breath. George’s frustration is clear, but all of it is light hearted tounge and cheek. So unlike the LIB sessions.

Well sure, whether or not John was bisexual is not a subjective matter; but whether it *matters* is subjective (that’s what I meant to say).
As for his “fearless honesty” that’s my impression. He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would have been afraid to say socially “incorrect” things.
