As for Power Cut having deeper meanings, anything’s possible; but I don’t feel a need to invest a flash of genius with deeper meaning to esteem it enough, and in the absence of actual proof, I must remain agnostic.  But luckily, I don’t need those deeper meanings to be perfectly satisfied with the music.  And this need to try to find “real” significations to various phrases in the lyrics seems misplaced as well.  A songwriter, just as a poet or a balladeer or a minstrel, often sings about generalities of the human condition.

The old joke:….

“Question. When did Paul write ‘silly love songs’?     ..Ans: From 1963 to 2013.” …….is unfair.

Still I don’t look for much in Paul’s lyrics………Though that’s not a put down. ‘Maybe I’m Amazed ‘ is very powerful and personal. And he’s written many others from the heart. But like you I distance myself from the interpretive junkies.

But for the reasons I’ve given and on the evidence of my ‘old’ ears….( allow that my ears were 40 years younger when I heard this)  at 2.26….2.36 and 2.57 I hear the other Beatles’ names…….. And the song all makes sense.

But thanks for taking the trouble to listen and post.

Atlas, I’m going to listen again…and again. I really, really wanted to hear the names. I strained my ears and brain last night listening for them. I’ll try another electronic listening device and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks Ahh…..

Listen for…..’Yes I do,yes I do’ pause ‘George’ 2.26

‘Yes I do yes I do’ pause ‘John’    2.36

and just when you thought he was forgotten……….But less distinct…… ‘Yeah Rin’go’ 2.57

If after that effort and your good will you still can’t hear it…………Then?…….Well it will be my ‘question you’d ask Paul’.

Ohhhhhh. Oooooo. Different device and different set of headphones.

I did hear “George”.

I heard something that sounded something close to “John”, but it kinda sounded like “Joan”. Maybe just a Brit-Yank sound difference?

Didn’t hear Ringo yet. I’ll try a different listening combination when I get a chance.

OK, OK. I’ll quit the derailment now. Atlas and I can carry it over to the impossible to derail thread if Atlas has any more thoughts on the derailment topic.

Don’t know if you know or not AG but if you wish to link to a specific post in thread you can do by following these steps

  1. Find the post you wish to link to
  2. Locate the chain link icon on that post, right click and from the drop-down menu that appears select “copy link address”.
  3. Highlight the text you wish to be the link in your new post.
  4. Left click the chain icon
  5. Paste in the the address
  6. Select “insert”.

So you end up with this and no need to write out which post folks are to check out.

It appears that Paul, to this day, still tolerates “dislike” of his songs from Ringo, Olivia & Yoko.  Here’s an interesting read on the legendary ‘Carnival Of Light ‘ track that Paul appears to be quite keen on for release  http://www.theguardian.com/mus…..l-of-light  but that word “rubbish” came up again when considering it for inclusion on the ‘Anthology’ project, probably from George…:-)

Yip, it was George who was heavily opposed to Carnival Of Light seeing a legit release; overall, everyone who has heard it, aside from Paul, has not been very nice about the track. Fan-wise, although the majority would like to hear it, it would more than likely end up in the “not to be played” pile. The best way of releasing it is for Paul to somehow get a copy of it on youtube like with Revolution Take 20; we would all get to hear and no-one can moan at Apple for putting it out and potentially damaging the Beatles reputation/legacy (which Apple are petrified of but i doubt could ever actually happen).

Would love to know how Revolution Take 20 got out. Anyone have the answer?

Wow!  I’ve never heard that before, most hypnotic.  It’d be nice to have the rhythm tracks higher in the mix during the fad-out though, now if only we can get that long version of ‘Helter Skelter ‘ leaked out, thanks for the gem…:-)

I can see that in cut-power. Pretty sure John and pauls only way to really communicate to each other was through there music in solo years. I get the vibe that listen to what the man said on Venus And Mars is about John. Also that the verse in coming up about a friend who wont fade away is specifically about John. Now that im thinking about he references searching in verse also. A song they used to cover in early days. Belive John is nodding back on double fantasy in beautiful boy with the lines about getting better. Anyone got other example besides the obvious diggs on Ram , how do you sleep, and crippled inside?

Personally i think the “getting better and better” lines in Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) are simply about John having Sean and the joy in seeing him grow up and being able to do things together; the same as most parents feel as their children grow up. Anything about the Beatles and/or Paul is just over-analysing it all to find something else.

@Wigwam, I listened with the two combinations of my mp3 player and car stereo and then car stereo with the video you posted (using my cell phone). The video on cell phone playing on the car stereo made “George” even clearer. AND, it is definitely “John” and not “Joan”. I still didn’t hear “Ringo” ahdn_paul_01. Maybe if I play around with the treble and bass settings or find another combination I will hear it.

Just had a thought. Perhaps I could hear it on trcanberra’s new super sound system. Oh, well. I’ll keep trying to hear it with the piddly things I have at my disposal.
