I don’t want to read her books because I don’t want to come away from them unable to think about anything but John being an a*****e who beats women. Or will I not think that?
Also, I read an interview with John’s Aunt Mimi where she said that Cynthia was aggressive and always pushing herself on John, and that at first he would hide whenever she came around.

That’s a good question. I haven’t read Twist of Lennon yet, but I did read John, which I understand was a fair bit harsher (or “more true to life” if you will) than Twist was. I only recall one incident in that book where John actually hit Cynthia, very early in their relationship, before they were married. She says she broke up with him after that, and I think they stayed apart for a few weeks before getting back together.
John doesn’t come across in this book as a nice guy, but he also doesn’t come across as a total monster either. He was, as I’m sure you know, a very troubled soul with a tendency to ping-pong between emotional extremes — happy, wonderful, romantic, and tender one day, sullen, angry, and dark the next day — and that is accurately reflected in Cynthia’s book. I guess what I’m trying to say is that there’s a pretty holistic picture of John in this book, so there’s some really good stuff, and there’s some not so good stuff.
I think she also accurately captures some of what made John tick on the inside, so I, as the reader, felt like I had a better understanding of why he could be so polarizing and volatile. If anything, I came away feeling more sorry and sad for John as a person with tortured emotions than I did feeling angry at him.

Frankly, I think science has sufficiently prolonged the human lifespan for the time being. I think it should focus more now on possibly slowing down the aging process. There’s no point in living into your 90’s or 100’s if you’re possibly going to become a mental and/or physical invalid in the process.

Is it appropriate to discuss in this thread the letter @parlance posted? Or should we discuss it somewhere else?

Another tribute to Cynthia from Yoko:
“She embodied love and peace” and “I wonder how much her presence encouraged [The Beatles] to go all the way to the top.” Also, “my pain of Cynthia’s sudden departure is very deep.”

That last Yoko statement is less awkward than the first one. This is more thought through.
Anyway, I haven’t been online the past few days and found out about this via Twitter. It’s such sad news. I had no idea she was battling cancer. Such a horrible disease. I am incredibly sorry for Julian.
Cynthia always appeared to be a very strong woman who never had a bad word to say about anyone. She handled the whole John situation well and she deserved much better.

I know someone already answered you, but I just want to reiterate that Cynthia said on many different occasions that he hit her only once… which is a*****e behavior, but doesn’t classify someone as an “a*****e who beats women.” Cyn also said about John: “He was constantly changing and looking for new quests. But whatever he did, it was totally honest and wholehearted.”
RIP, Cyn. Much love to Julian.

I forgot to post yesterday that it was Cyn’s one year anniversary.
I always liked Cynthia, she seemed like a real, genuine person.
I can’t believe it’s been a year already!

By overlooking Cyn, people are overlooking an important aspect of John. I really do like Cyn, and there’s no doubt that something kept John with Cyn for as long as it did. I also don’t think John leaving Cyn and Julian behind was an immediate thing, I’m sure John thought it through.
Life is unfair, but I’m glad that Cyn chose to highlight some of the much nicer things about her and John in her book rather than just slag him off which she could’ve. She isn’t even bitter towards Yoko in her book.
She was a sweet lady who loved John unconditionally without any hidden agendas, too bad that John never realized it.
Much respect for Cyn x)
