This is very sad news. My thoughts are with Julian and I hope Cyn’s somewhere better now…
I hate to see cancer taking so many lives.

It occurred to me that now Pattie Boyd is the last of the first Beatle wives remaining.

And hopefully nothing happens to her any time soon
Edit: A punch in the stomach is the perfect way to describe this feeling. It’s always do strange how much the deaths of people you never knew can affect you.

Very sad news. I’ve been sitting here reading A Twist of Lennon. At least it seems it was not a long and drawn-out illness. There’s something to be said for that.
The Daily Mail article carries several tributes, including Paul’s, which I haven’t noticed in this thread (apologies for reposting if I’ve just missed it):
The news of Cynthia’s passing is very sad. She was a lovely lady who I’ve known since our early days together in Liverpool.
She was a good mother to Julian and will be missed by us all but I will always have great memories of our times together.
Wow Julian looks a lot like John in that picture.
It’s the first decent article I’ve seen yet from the Daily Mail– usually they’re undeserving of their Beatle mention.
EDIT: Oh, now I see they claim John wrote “It’s Only Love “, “It Won’t Be Long “, “I Call Your Name “, “When I Get Home “, and “Do You Want To Know A Secret ” for her. Sorry but he didn’t. Well, they get points for effort

Kinda funny how a bunch of us ended up with “Apple faces” today as a joke, but now it seems to carry a bit more significance. Covering the face is an ancient sign of grief, and seeing all these avatars with apple-covered faces sort of reminds me of black arm-bands or some other symbol of mourning. I think I’ll keep my avatar this way until at least the end of the week.

When I first heard the news, I felt like hiding behind an apple and crying. Well I got the hiding behind an apple part

I was going to change my avatar to a picture of Cyn but I like the Apple-head idea.
Jesus, this is really the first “major” Beatles-related passing that I’ve experienced as a fan and the thought that there will just be more over the next 15 years or so is awful.
It’s also such a sobering thought that only Pattie is left of the original wives- I hope she doesn’t leave for many years to come.

As I posted at the news and rest in peace threads, if you have a chance to read John, you’ll know her for the beautiful lady she was.
Agreed. Looking over my book shelves, I don’t seem to have my copy of John anymore. If it turns up I’ll have to give it another read.

but are there any songs for Cynthia?
From the Examiner:
With the exception of “Getting Better ,” John never acknowledged which songs he may have written for his first wife Cynthia, whom he married in 1962. However, it’s assumed that “Do You Want To Know A Secret ?” (sung by George Harrison ) and “When I Get Home ” were written for her.

I really admire her, you know. She put up with the way John treated her and never said anything against him or Yoko. She and Julian deserved better.

Cynthia Lennon (1939-2015) We’ll miss you! Our thoughts and our love and our prayers go to Julian at this difficult time.
Also, there’ll be a public memorial at John’s star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame tomorrow at 6pm.

All 3 Beatle wives who have now died have all done so from cancer. This is becoming a troubling trend. All the same, R.I.P., Cynthia.
Not just the wives. Alistair and Derek Taylor, too.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

And Neil Aspinall… unfortunately the list is long.
But then we all die of something, and increasing life-spans increase the chances of illnesses like cancer and dementia.
