There’s a new book out by [XXX]s pastor.
NOT MY GOD . . . My Life As The Pastor Of The Man Who Murdered John Lennon
by Ken Babington
I would suggest that someone play ‘How Do You Sleep’ for the pastor, but I get the feeling it would be over his stupid-smug-looking-it-makes-me-want-to-kick-your-teeth-in head.
Just sayin’.
I get a bit touchy about this as well, @Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^<.

Sadly for Chapman he’s probably safer in prison as I suspect that someone will try and avenge John’s killing and that wouldn’t be of any use to anyone.
I also doubt Chapman would kill again as he got what he wanted.

Just saw this on Facebook. Agree with @meanmistermustard
I don’t feel sorry. You take someone’s life, now you can rot away in a cold cell for the rest of your miserable life IMO. You got to pay for what you’ve done. Had it been self defense, then it would’ve been a different story. This though, was very unnecessary.

I don’t think they can put him to death since he wasn’t sentenced to death. Don’t they keep him apart from the general population? Or no? Because I can’t imagine him doing well in the general pop. they’d do something to him for sure.

I have no idea as he deserves zero of my time, energy or interest. I didn’t know he was up for parole until it was posted here.

Good. Let him rot.
You say that but what you don’t think about is that when he killed John he was in a manic state and having delusions. He’s not a horrible person and he shouldn’t have to rot away his life in a prison cell for something he did at the age of twenty five when he was mentally not stable. The neurotransmitters in his brain weren’t working properly and that’s not his fault. He doesn’t need to be in prison; he needs therapy and medication.

Just because he’s in jail doesn’t mean his life has no worth. It may seem like prison is a waste of life but that doesn’t mean the people in it should just roll over and die.

Chapman knew fine well what he was doing in the build up to shooting and killing John and therefore deserves no sympathy for his actions or being in jail.
The question is has he served his sentence and is not a danger to others (he cannot pay the price for killing John as there is amount that can be put on a human life)?
Taking away the emotional side I personally think he has and he is not however if he is ever released there has to be an injunction in place that severely prohibits Chapman speaking, writing etc about or being able to profit in anyway from killing John. I’d also enforce his living in the US so he can’t just fly to another country and do so there.

Nobody knows if he’s not a danger to others. Should society play Russian roulette with the lives of the innocent people he will be in contact with if he’s let out? Anyone advocating a release of killers like Chapman should be required to have Chapman babysit their children or grandchildren alone, with a loaded gun nearby. That would change their tune, I dare say…

Of course we don’t and can’t know for sure but on that basis no one will ever be released as there is always the chance to reoffend; you cant guarantee the behaviour or actions of a prisoner after release.
The decision therefore comes down to parole boards, prison officials, governments, senators (lets not be naive and think they don’t) etc who take into account the crime(s), behaviour in prison, changes in the criminal/person over the years, the prisoners safety, public feeling (ties to prisoners safety and will be taken into account dependent on the crime(s)), the chance of re-offending, public safety, the victims family/ies, references from others, and goodness knows what else.

There’s also the matter of his own safety. He wouldn’t last a day outside. I doubt there is any good chance of rehabilitation, whether he was capable or not.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

That is not at all comparable. MDC is not a maniac serial killer, he’s a crazed fanatic who shot John Lennon .
Plus, Chapman had a personal issue with John Lennon , so I doubt he would shoot a young child while babysitting it in his first couple of weeks out of prison.

I don’t think MDC had anything against John Lennon , nor do I think he was a Beatles fanatic. His favorite artist was Todd Rundgren. As to the question of whether he is a danger to anyone, I believe that has to do with whether or not he receives a phone call and the person on the other end says “Catcher in the Rye.” I know my opinion is not popular on this forum.

I read a Murder Case File years ago that said that Chapman was a Beatles fan who not only played Beatles music endlessly on loop for hours and hours but thru this became convinced that John was a fake and/or sell out. I haven’t read anything within the last 10 to 15 years so maybe that has since been disproved.
I don’t think he is a danger to anyone else as he wanted to kill someone for the infamy and notoriety and he got it.

I never understood the MDC-Lennon situation until I read The Catcher In the Rye. I believe Chapman did have an issue with Lennon. It was the same issue that Holden Caulfield had with everybody he sees in the book. He preached “All You Need Is Love ,” but neglected his son. In a way, I agree with Chapman. Lennon was a ‘Phony,’ however he had demons like no one else. It is difficult to practice what you preach with a past like his. Not do say that I endorse Lennon’s murder, I definitely do not, for John Lennon is the #1 guy that I would resurrect if I could. I’m just saying MDC saw the hypocrisy in John Lennon , and decided to get rid of it.
Also there’s no way he wasn’t a Beatles fan. Everybody is.
