I’m always suspicious on April 1st……But looks genuine.
As ‘ism’s’ go Bagism was fun……I remember being quite defensive of them at the time…..I also remember hearing Give Peace A Chance for the first time ever. Unannounced and before the lights were dimmed it was being played prior to a Delaney and Bonnie concert at the Albert Hall. Slowly I recognised this was John and I paid excited attention………
John came in for a lot of stick but it was an exciting time.
Not stupid but not genius.

“But when you talk about destruction, don’t you know that you can count me OUT.”
I’d argue that’s where it changed and John embraced non violence full stop. In Revolution 1 he was unsure.
It was about trying to harness fame into a positive message. If you’re going to be spoken about make it something good. John chose peace, which is as wholesome as you can get. His peace talk was so influential it has become part of his myth, to the point it is overdone. That’s how effective it all was.
Remember John was asked what the messages the Beatles were putting out, and All You Need Is Love was given by him as a key example. Same thing with him promoting peace. He wasn’t a saint and did have troubles of his own – which is exactly why he was so interested in the concept of peace.
So ultimately, in terms of sculpting a legacy, I’d say the bed in, along with Imagine , were genius. Any bed in criticism he may have received at the time really means nothing when you consider the big picture.

I wouldn’t want to minimise things, but it’s important to be realistic when making judgements…….The Bed in was fun and well intentioned……But a lasting legacy when we consider the big picture? Peace is just as elusive as ever. I don’t see the Bed in and Bagism having any legacy other than as a footnote to John’s music. After all, without his music no one would have paid any attention.
Just an opinion.

I’m referring to John’s own career/legacy. Any criticism he received about the bed in basically vanishes when we consider he’s known for being a peace and love guy today.

I agree. It was a very nice gesture, but it’s become iconic mostly in the context of John’s career, not in the wider movement for peace.
Also, I can’t help but think of this whenever the Bed-in comes up: John and Yoko waiting for the cleaner to replace the sheets so they can go on protesting the system.

I had a friend similar to Yoko. I’m not sure I’d say you ‘get played’ by them. They compel you do things with them that you normally would feel uncomfortable to do, and you go along with it out of deep friendship. It can be exciting. It strengthens your bond too. I think it’s important to know yourself though, and to be strong enough to say no if you have to. Everyone knows if something doesn’t feel right.

I have a similar friend. They have the kind of personality where the things you like about them (how unusual they are, how exciting they are to be around) are also the things you dislike once they go too far.

Here to see live is the room in the Amsterdam Hilton that John (and Yoko) helped to make famous.
It is nice that the Hilton has kept the room all these years.
With the below URL you can be in the room live for as long as you like. You can look around, up and down, zoom in and look at pictures on the walls. Pause it and start it again.
If you really want to stay there you can! However it will cost you a pretty penny – $2,000 a night.

Enjoy the ride.

I think it was pretty genius, but him and Yoko together is just bizarre. There’s a moment where they get breakfast and then John falls back onto the bed with Yoko and he says “Oh you sexy bitch” like this is a documentary about peace dude….
Especially after I saw Unfinished Music No. 1 Two Virgins in an antique store WITHOUT the paper bag I’ve thought they were pretty weird. but they were just being creative man.
It has been relevant ever since though because we are still yet to have peace. One time me and my friends played Give Peace A Chance on Beale Street and then Ezekiel Kelly happened about a month after… so I guess he just doesn’t get the whole peace and love thing. TW: Then the guy pled non-guilty after the whole thing happened. Like how you gonna do that after you are on Facebook Live killing people?? https://www.actionnews5.com/20…..ing-spree/
There’s an alright news article.
The Bed-In for peace really inspired me to try to make change around here, but I’m a stupid kid so nobody’ll even give me a chance… whatever.

John was into a lot of avant-garde art, that’s what attracted him to Yoko Ono, because she was an avant-garde artist. They made a Dadaesque film short called “Fly” which showed a fly, and then up to five flies later on, just crawling on a naked woman’s body. That’s all the film is. They talked about it on the Dick Cavett show back in the 70s:

@seabelt
I’m definitely not opposed to avant garde art, it’s very interesting and captivating i might say. I think the reason I don’t like some of it is because I would be extremely uncomfortable doing it myself, like being naked infront of the world… not for me.
