I think what would be needed is not just someone making cool threads but people posting in them. The followers are more important than the thread starter since a thread will just die if no one else joins in.
I think we should look at what threads are people posting in and see why they are posting in them then use that to create more activity.

I think the forum goes in waves of activity and is to be expected as life comes up.
Currently I have no broadband in my new house as BT are being gits by not releasing my phoneline to the new Broadband supplier; they have until midnight Wednesday to hold onto the line.

Maybe it’s because whenever there is any real discussion, people ask us to stay on topic and that stops it, or the thread gets locked or merged into an old thread.
It depends on where the discussion is going; little point having a topic on the White Album and folk are talking about Donald Trump being the devil.
Topics are have only recently been locked or merged as they are duplicates; where this occurs links are always provided to the active thread so the discussion can continue – one thread was even unlocked and renamed to encourage discussion on a subject. If anything the amount of threads locked and/or merged has significantly fallen over the last year.
If ever it is felt that mods are being too heavy handed please do not hesitate to get in contact, we will always listen to anyone who contacts us and discuss anything that is brought our way.

We need exciting, new and innovating threads.
…..any ideas?
As long as I don’t have to rank or list anything.
There are already far too many “List your list of top 5 favorite lists of album ranking list lists” or some such spewage.

I agree I don’t think I’ve ever posted in ‘The Baker’s Dozen’ thead- lists don’t appeal to me.

Rankings are in overabundance, this is true. But I think the Baker’s Dozen is fun I don’t mind those.

Every once in a while the “rank the songs on such and such album” will pop up, usually by a new member. I myself did that too at first, because it feels good to get that kind of analysis out of your system. The Bakers Dozen isn’t really a ranking, more of a category game.

Based on what I see, people like to posts in threads that are more self-orientated.
The lists are self based, life thread is self based, Beatles moments are self based as some examples.

All through the day, I Me Mine I Me Mine I Me Mine . No one’s frightened of playing it, everyone’s saying it, going on strong all the time…
Personal connection to the music. It’s what makes the forum interesting, otherwise we’d just be saying the same things over again.

Not sure if my ramble is going to add anything, but at least it’ll be another new forum post, so yay!
Every once in a while, I’ll search for something to see if it’s been discussed yet. Often, it has, but the topic hasn’t been updated in years. Sometimes, I’ll add my comments anyway, but usually I don’t. The reason for that being, I don’t know what the general consensus on reviving dead topics is. I used to go to a forum that had strict rules about ‘necromancy’ as they called it, and it you revived ancient topics often enough, it could earn you a ban. So, not wanting to annoy the Forumpudlians any more than I already do on a regular basis, I often choose not to reply. I can’t be the only one who has qualms about digging up topics that have been dormant for years.
I also think that some of the more opinionated members, myself included, sometimes make people reluctant to post. It can be very intimidating to reply to something after one of our more controversial members has posted, knowing there’s a good chance they’ll come after you if you write something they disagree with. It’s happened to me, and I am very ashamed to realise I’ve done it to others as well. I try not to, it’s just that there are a few people here who manage to make me forget how to count to 10. I’m working on it, mainly by attempting to avoid the topics started or frequented by those members. I’m only one person, though, and not even the biggest offender. I’m not sure every one of our more abrasive members are aware of their impact. I’m not trying to point fingers, just trying to think out loud, so to speak.
Just like any forum, there are cliques on this one as well, and that may very well be the main issue why new members often don’t stay or become active. I consider myself to be at the fringe of the central group: I’m not an outsider, but I’m also not part of the in-crowd. It hasn’t stopped me from becoming active, but it does keep me from being as active as I’d like to be. There are many inside jokes that go over my head, there’s a lot of off-topic banter that can be very off-putting, and sometimes there’s some degree of bullying going on.
Now, let me stress that compared to most forums I’ve frequented, this place is more inclusive than any other place I’ve been. It’s generally a great forum, with mods who manage to keep things from getting out of hand. But the clique is very clearly visible for a newcomer, and it nearly made me give up when I first got here. So, perhaps we should all be more aware of that. We’ve got a wonderful welcoming committee in the form of @Ahhh Girl and @Beatlebug who are worth their weight in gold. Perhaps if we would all aspire to being a bit kinder to new members, more people would choose to stay.
There’s so much knowledge here, which can be terribly intimidating. Perhaps we should have some beginner topics, where we don’t go out of our way to show out Beatleclopedia skills, but rather just have some easy-going, welcoming Beatles-related chat which would make it easy for anyone to join in without feeling stupid for not knowing who played which instruments on all songs of the White Album by heart, or for not knowing how many hairs were sticking out of Paul’s nose on 12 December, 1965. Yes, I know we have some fairly accessible topics. Let’s have some more, and keep them active. Or revive some of the older ones. You know, make people want to chat with us…

As far as I know it’s not illegal to revive dead threads, so if it seems like a fun thread that could be interesting to new members, maybe we should revive it.
Yeah you are a tad bit opinionated. I remember when I first arrived on the forum you accused me of being a PiD troll. It did quite intimidate, so maybe we all as a forum should become less strongly opinionated and more open to others, in order to make newbies feel welcome.
Wow, I always thought of you as part of the “clique”. I feel like that happens to me a lot in real life. There’s a person that I think is part of a friend group, and then sometimes it even turns out that the group hates him/her.
So in conclusion, we should try to come up with fun simple Beatlely threads that are self oriented.

Oh yeah, don’t worry, you did apologize. No hard feelings. I was just saying that at first it did intimidate me when you took my PiD posts the wrong way.

It’s a very touchy subject for me.
Re: the clique: I guess I’m a bit of a George. I hang around the cool kids a lot, and they might wonder who this weird kid is, but eventually they’ll accept me and maybe even appreciate my quirks. Perhaps they’ll even consider me one of them, but I’ll still feel like I don’t quite belong.

@Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^<, you are in the inner circle. I love the depth of your Macca knowledge.
If a person posts at least once a month, I consider the person in the inner circle. I hope @Joe can get the “watches”/”following”‘/whateveritwascalled thing fixed so people can get an email when someone posts in a thread they are interested in. I think that would bring people in more.
Reviving old threads is FAB! Except maybe don’t revive this one: https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..5/#p132295
I guess I am just headstrong sometimes. When I joined, I just wanted to talk about Beatles, Beatles, Beatles, Beatles. I didn’t let being a newbie stand in my way. I just plopped myself in here and got busy Beatles yabbering. I’m glad the people who were here at the time didn’t and shun me.
Thanks for think of me as welcoming. It is my main mission, not just on the forum, but also for the students at my library.
I really enjoyed the lyric last letter game. It helped me learn Beatles lyrics. Maybe some lighter games like that would help newbies get acclimated to the forum??
