Based on what I read from other posters, I thought we were all a nice and reasonable bunch who would not let the games get out of control. But based on what you said, it sounds like that it exactly what happened “all those years ago”.
Games should be just a pleasant change of pace. But if they came to dominate the All Together Now section, I now understand why they had to be dropped.

I realise this is going to be a controversial question. @Joe may not like all the answers. However, for several months now, it has not escaped any of the regulars attention that posting on the Forum has slowed down incredibly. It used to be rare that you could look at the Forum and in the “Most Recent Posts” see a post that was more than 3 or 4 hours old, now that list is regularly filled with posts that are up to twelve hours old, occasionally older.
We who have been part of the Forum for a while are well aware that the conversation has dropped off, and I feel that acts as a disincentive to others join in the conversation.
It disappoints me when I look at the Forum and see that the last post was made hours ago, remembering how it always used to seem that there had been at least one post in the last hour.
I’d like to see this Forum become the vibrant and active community it was before, which is the only reason I ask the question:
Does anybody have any ideas about what the site could be doing to attract people back to joining in the conversation?
I should probably mention that I discovered on Friday that the site wasn’t sending out the automated emails to new members, so they wouldn’t get the instructions on setting passwords etc.
Sorry everybody, if you tried to join up but couldn’t get anywhere. I think the problem is fully fixed now. The employee responsible has been retrained and put on a final warning.
I know the sign-up emails had been unreliable in the past, but when I tested it in September they were working. Hopefully there weren’t too many disappointed people that couldn’t get in.

I first read that as “retained” and thought, “blatant nepotism”.

It does seems like there has been a reduced level of activity during my short time on the Forum, but I can say for sure that’s it’s not because of anything the posters in this thread have done or failed to do. RN, Ex Tex and mmm are prolific, thoughtful and provocative posters who constantly keep the legend alive and promote the Forum in the best possible ways. And Ahhh Girl! I could not imagine a better ambassador for the site and a more supportive friend for all her fellow Beatlemaniacs. I have a feeling this is just a cyclical thing and that new members will boost activity in time. Look what Silly Girl has done single-handedly.
Oh…. really now… you’re too kind…

<snip crackle pop>There is a fantastic quote from John when in Memphis in August 1966 which is what i hold onto
“You know, they’re entitled to not like us. And we’re entitled not to have anything to do with them if we don’t want to, or not to regard them. We’ve all got our rights.”
…..HAROLD
I agree with all that has been said. I sometimes mourn the ennui that the forum occasionally falls into, but I know if I just ‘hold on, John/Yoko/world, it’ll be all right’ it will be all right. Members come and go, alas! more’s the pity! and there are busy times and slow times. It has fallen into a bit of a lull, but all things must pass. It’ll likely buck up again soon. Today seemed quite busy, compared to the weekend when I was alone online several times.

Also, as regards the ‘thank’ option, I would like to note that I like that feature (as I’m sure you’ve seen ). You can acknowledge a post without having to make a whole post that says nothing but ‘Thanks for saying that *insert user here*!’ and doesn’t have anything to do with the topic at hand. It keeps discussions cleaner; you don’t have to scroll through a whole page of people saying thanks for that post.
Just how I see it…

I was on last night. 27 unread threads and about 60 posts in less than 18 hours, and that doesn’t include the posts submitted since i’ve been on. Been going thru them all for the last 40 minutes and still got 6 unread threads.
The forum has quiet moments and then it bursts back into life.

I left the forum for about three or four hours and got 21 unread posts. I think there was a weekend lull. I do know some of our users mostly only log on on weekdays.

It seems that forum activity picked up somewhat. Are there times of the year where the forum is less active?

I imagine we had a spike due to George Martin’s passing. Folks came here to be with like-minded people to help deal with the grief.

I think it’s because St. Patty’s Day is coming up so people come here because The Beatles are all Irish.
I don’t think the general public cares about their “Irishness”.

I think it’s a subconscious thing. They do care – they just don’t realize it.
