I still don't know what you're talking about. Like people saying random lyrics?

Wait a minute, was it called “Random Lyrics” or “Song Lyric of the day” or something else? I can't remember…Anyways, it was just a random line or two from a random song that used to appear on the homepage – a different lyric everyday. Or maybe everytime the screen was refreshed. I don't know, never bothered to find out.
Anyways, I hadn't even noticed it was gone, but I have to confess that I'm glad, and hope it stays away for good! Half the time it would display a lyric that, out of context, was totally unremarkable and/or just plain stupid. I'd navigate to the homepage and see something like “Ooh I need your love, Babe / Guess you know it's true,” and wonder exactly what made such a lyric worth singling out. Truthfully, I hated “Random Lyrics” and would like to have suggested its removal in the “Site Changes” thread. But I would never have even considered actually making such a request – it'd be totally disrespectful (hurtful even, maybe) to Joe and all his efforts on behalf of this wonderful website of his. And it's not as though I'm being FORCED to read the damn thing. And for all I know, everyone else who posts here likes (liked?) it a lot, and would really miss it if it were gone.
So, bottom line: If “Random Lyrics” is indeed gone for good, I'll shed no tears. And if it returns, well, that's fine too, I'll just go back to ignoring it. (Or wishing it could be replaced by a “Beatles Quote of the Day” – now THAT is something I would find compelling.)

I think there is a “Beatles Quote of the Day” on the homepage.
I liked the “Random Lyrics.” It was a fun feature, and it would help if I had a lame song stuck in my head– I would read it and have a Beatles song stuck in my head. Much better.
If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind that is confusing things.
Well, it's been gone for a few months now, but it's nice that someone finally noticed!
It went because I ran out of room on the sidebar. It was getting very cluttered there, so I stripped it back to just contain things which actually added something useful (and some adverts, of course – a necessary evil). I still have the quotes in a database so I can add them back in at some point should I wish to.
The lyrics were just a few lines from a randomly-selected song. The idea was that people might click on the title, read the article about it, then be inspired to take more of a look around the site. A mystery trip, if you like.
The 'on this day' thing is still there, but I took out the facility to select individual dates from a dropdown menu. If someone selected a date for which there was no page (which happened a lot), it returned a 404 broken link. Google really doesn't like broken links and it can affect a site's ranking in their results, so it had to go. If the WordPress plugin author fixes it I'd reintroduce it, but I think development has been abandoned.
(The above link is in case the author sees it – your support forum has been down for months.)

Wow, so I guess everybody appreciated “Random Lyrics” but me! <img class="sfsmiley" title="blue-meanie" onclick="sfjLoadSmiley('blue-meanie_01.gif', 'blue-meanie', 'https://www.beatlesbible.com/w…..', '', '1');” src=”https://www.beatlesbible.com/wp/wp-content/forum-smileys/blue-meanie_01.gif” alt=”blue-meanie” /> I dunno, I just always need something to complain about…
Whatever. I now appreciate Joe's rationale for creating it in the first place. If you guys liked them, then I'm sorry Joe had to get rid of them.

Whoa, some weird smiley errors there.

Hey, just noticed that they're back – and they're improved!
I know, I know, I complained about 'em before. But now that they're constantly refreshing themselves every few seconds- before your very eyes! – rather than staying up for the entire time the screen is opened, the annoyance factor for me personally is gone. If I think a lyric looks silly right there out of context, I'll just blink my eyes and a new one appears! And they're at the bottom of the homepage, making them easy to ignore entirely if anyone should so desire.
I can't see how anybody could dislike 'em now! (Assuming I wasn't the only one…)
Well done, Joe!
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I totally agree!! I noticed that the section was missing and I love it!
now I don't remember if we had “On this Day” section in the main page

Beware of Darkness…
I couldn’t get On this day to work on the front page – there’s a very boring explanation which I won’t share here, but it’s to do with PHP code and me not being clever enough. It’s a shame, because it’s a nice feature, but it does appear on all other (non-forum) pages.

Yeah, that happens on both my home and work computers, but NOT on the laptop I was using over Xmas holidays, strangely enough. Some kinda “personal settings” issue, presumably. But I'm due for a shiny new computer, and I rarely have any need to use the smileys anyways, so I'll just continue doing without 'em until I upgrade.
