I just used italics in one of my posts yesterday and it worked.
Maybe that was before it broke. I used italics just yesterday too, but it was before Starr Shine?’s post.
Edit(2 seconds after this was posted): The Italics work now!

Well it doesn’t seem to be working for me. Perhaps it’s a font problem on my end.
edit: bump for @Joe
It appears that in my current version of Chrome, when I use inspect on the italics, the css setting
for emphasis is overriding any stylesheet for posts in italic; if I blank that setting, italics come back. I thought it might have something to do with the post editing font being bold but that looks deliberate.

Well I posted @Starr Shine?’s quote, which was italicized in the editor and it came out normal. When I posted text that I italicized myself, it worked. When I post this we’ll find out whether or not your italicized quote actually shows as italicized.
Edit: It didn’t work. Also this was posted before @ewe2’s edit.

The smiley of Ringo covering his ears with his hands does not work for me on my computer, but all the other smileys work. When I click on it all of them get highlighted. It’s very problematic for me, because that is one of my favorite smileys.

It works for me. What’s your browser and OS? Can you try a different browser? If others are using the same they can tell you if it works for them.

Ah, that’s actually really useful. Thanks. I’ll see what I can do with it.
A couple of days ago I was setting up some promotion for my old Raymond Jones article, and I noticed that bold (strong) tags weren’t being rendered (it was a Q&A interview and the questions should have been bolded). I couldn’t work out what was stopping them, so I added
strong, b {
font-weight: bold;
}
to my CSS file. It should have been like that anyway, but as I said something was suppressing it. With the above declaration it worked again. I didn’t know it was also affecting italics. I’m not sure of the consequences if I remove the inherit declaration, so I’ve added this instead:
em, i {
font-style: italic;
}
Has that fixed the issue? CSS isn’t my first language, so I normally have to hack things around until they work.

Italics
Italics too.
EDIT: OK, em tags still don’t seem to render, but font-style: italic does. So at least the wisywig editor in the forum should be working. I’ll keep looking at it.
EDIT 2: This worked (rather than em, i):
em {
font-style: italic;
}
Leaving this here for my own future reference, as much as anything.

Italics
That’s italics done on my Samsung.

Can you change what tags the buttons have? So that the Italic button has the span code?
If you can't log in and can't use the forum go here and someone will help you out.

The italics is showing correctly now. It wasn’t when I made the post yesterday.
The other piece of information I shoukd have stated is that I am using the HTML editor.

Italics test Hmm. I don’t use the wysiwyg editor, I’m much more at home with tags being the aforementioned geeky type who needs confirmation that what the computer does is what I ask it. CSS is weirder than it used to be, the cascading rules are even more baked in and it can be a real headache.

Edit, not quote.
bold test
italics test
underline test
Bold and underline work at least in the non-wysiwyg.

The “Go to page” button doesn’t work, if you type in a page number and press go, it’ll take you to page one.
Not really a major problem (you can just edit whatever page you’re on in the URL) but kinda annoying.

@ewe2 <em> should work OK, but it looks like <i> tags don’t work at the moment. I’ll fix it when I get the time, but in the meantime please use em tags.

No, sorry.

@Evangeline
Ah, sorry. I don’t think I can fix that. Unfortunately I can only use the themes that the forum devs have made, and it looks like this function isn’t working in the theme I’m using. I did switch to another recently but that came with other problems. One day I’ll see if it can be fixed. There are a few other issues with this theme but I don’t have time right now to troubleshoot them all.
