It’s very popular this side of the Atlantic- no-one here says ‘am not’- t’is always ‘amn’t’. That and it rolls off the tongue easier.

That is as it may be, but what I said was more dramatic and that. I think the (less grammatical) this-side equivalent would be ‘ain’t’, which I’m personally very fond of using.
And AD40 has a point.

This is main site, not forum, but wasn’t sure where else to put it, @Joe.I’ve been having great problems accessing the main History page over the past couple of weeks, getting this message
Request Timeout
This request takes too long to process, it is timed out by the server. If it should not be timed out, please contact administrator of this web site to increase ‘Connection Timeout’.
nearly every time.
I’m not having problems accessing any other part of the main site, just the History main page, and can access the articles via Google as I’m usually able to make a precise enough search to find the article I’m looking for.
So, generally, I’m still finding what I’m looking for, but by an annoying roundabout way.
I have some good news. I found a plugin that presented the archives in a similar way, but with far fewer queries to the database. Less strain on my server, faster loading times, less chance of your browser timing out.
The old version required around 3,500 database queries, whereas the new version makes fewer than 70. That should mean it loads much quicker. Go see. Hopefully you won’t be getting any more timeouts.
It needs a bit of styling, but that can come later. I also lost the automated post count, but I’ll see if I can get that back.
For anyone who comes in via Google and wants a similar solution, I used this plugin, and the shortcode clean-my-archives order=”ASC”. The developer actually kindly updated the plugin on my request to have the option of displaying the archives in oldest->newest order, because it previously only displayed the most recent first.

That’s great, @Joe. Fastest I’ve ever seen it work. Blink and you miss it loading.
Thanks so much for seeking a solution, and finding one that works so well. You may need to do a little styling to get it looking like you want, but the most important thing is the functionality. You’ve solved a problem that was probably affecting many looking at the site, and maybe putting off some visitors.
It’s a great solution.

Yep, it was always on my to-do list as something that needed addressing. I try not to forget when people request changes, it just might take a while before I can come up with a fix.
Google penalises websites that are slow loading, so I’m always looking for ways to make the site leaner and faster without losing functionality. This site will probably never be as snappy as I’d like but it’s waaaay better than it was in the very early days when I was on shared hosting.
Thanks for flagging this up. Glad I could get it sorted for you and others.

There is a and a but there is no Lin or Mo ??????
Or Jane. She was with Paul longer than Linda during the Beatles years (i think – someone will probably work it out that Paul and Linda were together for 15 more days or something).

One thing I noticed is that since the update (for me at least), the tab no longer says ‘Fab Forum | Weird things happening…’ or whatever. It just says ‘Fab Forum |’ no matter what page you’re browsing.

About the weirdness surrounding @mentions, I was @tted by a user at the beginning of a post, and while the text displayed was only ‘beatlebug’, I received a mention notice. So the @tt did go through, despite appearances.
