Sorry about the slowness/partial loading everyone. I’ll look into it. The last thing I want is for this site to be borderline unusable.
Ahhh Girl – add images to PMs is exactly the same as adding them to normal forum posts: click on the tree icon, then paste in the URL of your image (it needs to be somewhere on the web, not on your desktop etc). If you’re trying to do it some other way it might not work properly.

Offline I’m on a PC but not on any social media where i store pics online. The last one i ever used was years ago and my account was deleted a year or so ago.
Now these boxes are just taking the piss. One post they are here, the next gone, two posts later back again, then they vanish only to reappear.

Are you talking about the small posting window? I’m seeing that too. The best way round it (if you have a mouse rather than touchscreen) is to enlarge the posting window. Look for where it says “Path: p”. On the very opposite side of the screen there should be three diagonal lines. Drag those to make the posting window bigger.
This isn’t anything to do with changes I’ve made. I think it’s to do with a forum software update. I’ll report the problem and see if there’s a fix forthcoming. They quite often upgrade components which make everything go awry, but it’s sometimes difficult to work out what’s caused it.
I did look into switching software but it’s a massive headache (I know, things aren’t great at the moment either). When I tried to migrate the database it was incomplete, with partial threads and orphaned messages, and so gave up. I’ll revisit when I have more time.

Hum. Interesting. I’ve never used the tree before. I’ve always just copied the picture from the web and pasted it into a forum post. No problemo. I’ll try the tree thing in a PM.

Thanks for that, btw. I’d just always gone straight to the HTML icon when copying and pasting didn’t work and had missed that there was a simpler way of doing it.

Offline A few hours ago (around 21:30 at a guess) whilst posting the site died and all i got was a blank page. An hour later i could get into the the home page and a few other sections (songs, albums) but the forum and the remaining places (books, people, to name two) were still dead. Second time its happened. The issue was in the 3 browers i tried, thought it might just be my laptop but ipod also failed to get the forum up.
Internet working fine otherwise.
Also what i posted just before the place went has disappeared.

This is the second time I’ve noticed this same pattern also. I started having withdrawal symptoms.

I had the same thing happen, and for the second time in the last week. I, however, noticed something that neither mmm or AG has noted. The address changed. In fact, I have had to close the tab and open it in a new tab to get rid of the changed address. I don’t know whether it’s relevant, but copied it just in case. Instead of the usual
https://www.beatlesbible.com/forum/
for me it’s been showing as
https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..1552734375
It switched to that when the site went to just a blank page showing. Don’t know if that adds anything but I thought it worth a mention just in case.

Offline Am finding the site slow tonight, taking at least 30 seconds to load a page. Doesnt sound a lot but when you’re sitting twiddling your thumbs it does feel like it. Chrome says it is waiting for http://www.beatlesbible.com down the bottom.

Offline As everybody can see, the site has been switched back to its previous server. This has meant, unfortunately, the unavoidable loss of everything after a certain time on 10 December. Three days are gone and there was nothing we could do. I hope you’ll accept our apologies. Those looking at the site in the past 24 hours or so will understand bad things were happening, and Joe was doing all he could to keep it up. We are really sorry about this, and any important information you posted, please repost. Sorry about lost discussions!

Offline Unfortunately, I can only guess, based on things Joe has said. It would seem, on the 10 December, Joe and Pothi switched the site to a new server to try and deal with the speed issues many have been noticing. That was a smooth and planned switchover that had everything backed up. Unfortunately, as we saw yesterday, everything started breaking on the new server, leaving Joe with a screaming baby and a website that needed its nappy changed! Even though Pothi is not really available, and with Joe probably having no more hair to pull out, they’ve had an emergency conflab, and resorted back to the version on the server they abandoned. This has meant the loss of everything posted on the server they were trying out that failed us so successfully yesterday! Assuming this server stays, or that any move to another server is planned, there will be no further loss of posts. This has only happened because of the particular nature of this necessary fix.
