I was “tagged” in a post the other day. I think the word was “tagged” or it was something similar. I got a message bar across the top of my screen that notified me that I had been tagged. How do you tag someone in post? Is tagging considered “good” or “bad” form on this forum?Could you explain this further over at the “Weird things happening with the forum” thread in Getting better? I may be able to explain it, but the “tagged” bit is confusing me.
When I logged in several days ago, there was a notice across the top of my screen that I had been tagged in a post. It looked just like the bar/message that comes up when you have a post that is awaiting moderation. I clicked on the link in the bar/message and it took me to the post where someone had mentioned me. I wish I could remember who it was and what post it was, or even the thread. Perhaps the person who tagged me will see this and help us out.

Moderators have access to a tool called “Notify User” which we can use to inform forum members of things like, for instance, if we have moved a post of theirs to another thread, or – as you say – if they have a post awaiting moderation. My guess would be that one of the other moderators saw a mention of you in a post that they thought might interest you, and so used “Notify User” to alert you to it to make sure you didn’t mean it. And, again guessing, “tagged” I should think meant nothing more than “mentioned here”.

That sounds right. So, just mods can do that. Makes sense. Thanks for cluing me in so I won’t spend time trying to figure out how to do it.
EDIT: I just saw the notice. That is what it looked like. Thanks!

Typo on my part, I meant to say, “to make sure you didn’t miss it,” not, “mean it”! Ooops!

OK, Joe? (I think Joe is the main mod man.) I just made a post wanting to quote whichever poster I quoted in the first paragraph box, but now everything I posted looks like quotes of other posts. I just want to be able to quote one post and then post my reply, not have a slew of qoute boxes. Tell me how to fix the settings. Thanks in advance, Joe.
Oh, BTW, I’m the guy who told people where the flugelhorn comes in on “Dear Prudence ” (3:33), but I called myself Mike Landry for that one before I decided to join up here.

Here’s what I think you’re doing wrong, Paul. When you’re quoting something, to reply you’re clicking directly below the quote, and the cursor it is showing you – which is indented – is still within the quote box. If you click towards the bottom of the reply box, another cursor will show – that will not be indented – which is outside the quote box.
Example (imagine this is the reply box):

This is somebody’s quote, if you click directly below it you will get an indented cursor
(cursor 1) This is still within the quote box
(cursor 2) Clicking towards the bottom of the page will show an unindented cursor. Or, alternately, just move the cursor forward until it stops, and it should stop in this same position.
——————————————————————————————–
When you quote, the quote includes two additional lines to write on, one inside the quote box, and one outside. At the moment it seems you are using the one inside the box. I hope this makes some sense, and that I haven’t just confused you.
I think I have already welcomed you in another thread, but welcome again in case I haven’t.

Since we are on the topic of quotes why is is that at times when I quote someone all i get back after writing out a reply is an empty white box or an exact replica of the quote so it appears twice?

It happens if you delete too much empty space next to the quote. It’s a weird bug, hard to explain. I know it’s about to happen because I see a weird little jump in the text. And then I go into the HTML button to fix it. Or I just copy, post and edit/paste afterward.

Hi, Paul. I just went into your last post in edit mode to see it as you’d typed it. You’ll see I have re-edited it to make it appear as you wanted. I found you had missed using the bottom cursor. I would recommend clicking at the very bottom of the reply box until you get used to it. If your reply to the quote is in line with the quote, you are still within the quote box. If you have found the right cursor point, your reply will appear closer to the left margin than the quote. I will see if I can come up with a clearer explanation.
Don’t worry, you’re not the only person struggling with this at the moment.

I just disabled RichText in my Options. Now I can’t bold or italicize words or titles, but at least I can quote the poster I wanted to, and isn’t that all I really need to do anyway?
mja6758, I just missed your reply. I’m not really worried about it, we’re all here to chat Beatles anyway. If a lot of people are having problems then maybe it’s a glitch you all need to fix, but personally I don’t need all the bells and whistles anyway. I can just CAPITALIZE what I wanted to bold. Not a big deal.

That shouldn’t be the problem though. I don’t know what I’m using but I can still bold and italicize. Apologies for over-editing a little. I thought the paragraph you moved back into the quote was yours. Shoulda checked the post you were quoting first. I will investigate this further as you should not need to be disabling functions that I can use.
Can I ask what your OS and browser are?

I had one of your posts show up as unread about a half dozen times even after I refreshed the browser, closed it and opened it, hit the computer etc. etc.

I wish I knew what to say to solve this, but I have no idea, if I’m honest. If you refresh, and close down and start up your browser, and it’s still not working, then I don’t know what to suggest. I’ll pass this on to Joe and see if he knows what to do, until then, I apologise guys.
