This is bizarre. Why would they put the work into actually naming themselves “NotSomethingSomething” and reversing the avatars? Why didn’t they just name themselves something generic? Doing this just makes us already notice something is wrong, which wouldn’t happen if they didn’t do anything other than create an account and post a spam.

Could have been solely for a laugh and the person/people behind are in tears at the minute as we all wonder what is going on. But then the US Government and many other organisations are probably watching us and wondering that most of the day so ha!
To anyone watching on hello, hope you are well. It was sunny here in Scotland yesterday, yeah amazing isn’t it since it’s always meant to rain.

If you look at the profiles they haven’t only reversed the avatars, my signature in NotRonNasty for instance, is not, “I only said we were bigger than Rod…” but “I only said we were smaller than Rod…”.
I’m not comfortable with this. To accidentally create a forum that is too close to someone already here is one thing, to see so many mocking forum names created I am not happy, and we don’t know if something else is going on.

I don’t see the signatures on the profiles?
This is a heck of a lot of work for whoever did it. Also it’s definitely not a bot to do something this sophisticated. There’s a human doing this for some reason.
By the way, bios and locations are also contradictory to the original. Not Satan Himself’s bio says “Life Long Beatles hater. Be mean” And NotVonBontee was “not born, has died”
This is really a heck of a lot of work for nothing.

@IveJustSeenAFaceo click on the “view full profile for Ron Nasty” button at the bottom of the profile box. Depending on your screen resolution/size/whatever you call that you may have to move the profile box up (mouse click and drag) to see the button. That is where you will see the signature line.

I think its just someone having a joke, no spammer is going to spend time setting up a handful of accounts, alter the avatar and signature of each one so they are the opposite meaning of what they were originally and then not post anything, all the time risking the accounts being deleted. A spammer works quickly as they know at some point they will be thrown out.
Anyway Joe will sort it tomorrow and we will be back to normal (if there’s such a place). Just be sensible and don’t click on any links any of those notx accounts have or post.
Of course it could be some evil pincer movement designed to bring down the net – set up the pieces, let them put everyone at ease thru inaction and then at the very moment when no one is looking STRIKE!! If so we are doomed!

@meanmistermustard Have you noticed that NotVonBontee has thanked you for your 442 post in this thread? A joke or not, myself, I do not appreciate anybody mocking my identity here without having the balls to actually post anything!
I hope Joe bans all these “Not” accounts and asks those behind them to come up with their own identities, and not negatives of ours. Especially as, if they are wanting to be members of the forum, they have joined in a way that means they will be ignored.

Thanks for reporting this. I’ll have a think about the best way to handle this. They all come from the same IP address so it won’t be hard to block them (or I can just delete the user accounts).
Edit: accounts deleted.

Its always nice to be thanked – and to be welcomed. Whoever it is is at least courteous which is good to know. Either that or the person is spying on us and has a sense of humour.
Out of interest if the account is terminated do i lose my thank you?

It’s just a kid playing games. I’ve removed the accounts and hopefully it won’t happen again, but if it does I’ll delete those too. Looks like you keep your thanks though, MMM.

OK, you know how we have the ability to “mention” somebody? And how this ability is unavailable to some of us (including myself) due to (presumably) a browser issue? Well, somebody mentioned me on the un-derailable thread, and I happened to quote that post (including their @Von Bontee) to reply…and the next time I opened a new page, I got the message “Von Bontee mentioned you in the post The “Incredibly Impossible to Derail This Thread” thread”!
Nothing earth-shattering there, just thought it was amusing. Now that I’ve told you all about it I can delete it.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I understand the idea of adding automatic links to appropriate articles on the main site, but is there any way to make it less enthusiastic. It seems that not all the articles the automatic links are making are the right ones, and sometimes, you’ll just use a phrase and it’ll link completely out of place.
As an example, amac posted and included this phrase, “I’m not knocking it for those who dig it,” and, lo and behold, the song Dig It was linked to. It just seems to me there are many phrases we use a lot that are being linked to totally out of context.
EDIT: Also, when I typed in the quoted “dig it”, I typed it in without capital letters, as I have done in this edit, and it’s capitalised it as if I intended the song title.

Yes, I’m doing some fine-tuning each day. I realise it’s linking a little too much.
I’ve changed it so dig it won’t link, but Dig It does (ie it case-matches). I’ve done the same for a few titles, such as getting better/Getting Better , yesterday/Yesterday , something/Something and so on.
Most titles are set to catch any mentions, regardless of whether people use capitalisation. That’s actually quite helpful, because someone might write “I Am the Walrus” (with ‘the’ in lower case), and it wouldn’t link unless they capped up each word. And people don’t always capitalise everything. But catching all titles also creates too many false positives, as in your example. If I spot any more I’ll fix them, but feel free to @mention suggestions to me.

@Joe Might I also suggest that – “I should have known better” should also be made case-sensitive as that also seems a phrase as likely to crop up in ordinary conversation.
