Someone submitted this comment on one of my song articles today (I didn’t publish it):Good heavens this site is repetative and , frankly, boring. Same stuff you can find in many other places and nothing new or of note.
Geez, the Beatles stopped writing music 45 years ago, how much more new stuff can he/she expect to hear????????
The beauty of this site, is especially for Young new fans that weren’t around to hear what all the hype was about, and for us old folks to remember what we forgot!
Like it or lump it!

“I was going to start threads for the more important articles, which would be a way of flagging new content.“
Great idea.
And you can’t please all the people all the time judging by that bit of “Feedback” you mentioned 🙂

When you copy the link address for a post there is a number at the end which presumably is the latest post number increasing by one each time a post is submitted. This post is p189603 (the newest/most recent at time of post) and going by the number of posts at the bottom there are 184034 on the forum – if that number and my reasoning is correct.
So that would mean that 5,569 posts have been deleted since the forum has been in operation? That seems like a lot of posts; it would be 8th in the Top Posters list!!
Now we know that the first post on the forum was this (its also p1) and it was created on 20th June 2008 which was 2,639 days ago so on average there have been 2.11 posts deleted per day. Which actually isn’t that much.
Well i found it interesting.

Would be interesting to see what kind of posts have been deleted? A good number will be duplicates/errors and another chunk will be threads being cleaned up. Oh and i deleted that whole dream thread; tho we did replicate it the number of posts deleted will still be influenced.

I know that a bunch of posts were deleted out of the In My Life thread.
ALong with some posts from Paulsbass deleted thread.
Spam thread/posts.
If you look at the Impossible to derail this thread in the way back machine, you’ll see a bunch of deleted posts.

It seems like a lot of deleted posts. Most days nothing at all gets deleted (unless the other mods are zapping all sorts of spam that I never see, though I doubt it). Over the years we’re talking hundreds rather than thousands.
I wonder if, when a thread gets moved or merged, it assigns a new number to each affected message. That might account for the elevated number. I don’t really know though.

Maybe if a mod has nothing to do, they could test that.

Compared to most other sites we dont get a lot of spam on the forum; maybe because they know it will be quickly deleted.
Lets see about the moving.
The post stays as post #p189671 when moved elsewhere and back when i presume it would increase by 1 each time if it was given a new number with each move.

(links altered as otherwise the first two would come up as dead)
Maybe when folk could delete their own posts they were deleting more than was realised.

Thanks for taking the time for that. There goes my theory!
I guess with nearly 200,000 messages on the forum, it’s possible that around 3% of them have been deleted. I really don’t know though. We got rid of a lot during the spring clean a while back (various bits of spam, short threads that went nowhere etc), and I got quite trigger-happy with boring high school conversations that didn’t have any longevity (don’t worry, they were years-old already).

Two questions:
1. Do spoilers involving pictures get moved in the original post? For example, I can put in a spoiler with a picture, and instead of it coming after the text, the thing seems to move to the top of my post. But, when it’s just words, it stays in the place I intend for it to be. Is that normal, or is this just me?
2. On mobile, is it normal for the attachments to basically do the same thing as with the spoiler being a picture: being moved to the top of the post? I noticed this last night when I was trying to upload a drawing, that my text was showing up below the attachment, when I meant for the text to be above the picture.
Sorry if this makes no sense whatsoever. Typing this type of stuff at 8:25 in the morning just turns into word vomit

We can test this out. I’ll put an attached picture in a spoiler and a image from another website in a spoiler and see what happens.
Image upload
Image from other website
Though something like this has happened before I saved it in an old thread.
