Does anyone think it would be worthwhile and beneficial to have a thread which collates and details how to carry out some of the functions, features and other stuff you can or cant do on the forum like spoilers, notifications, cross-posts, post deletion, file upload etc? Occasionally folk ask and whilst a few don’t take that long to type out others can. We could then stick the thread to the top of the “Forum rules and help guides” section.
Just a thought.

I’ve been thinking about this very thing. We could have a thread with each process as a separate post and the first post would be a list of links (with descriptions) that would take you to the post you need. Any of us can put a post in the thread, and a mod can edit the first post to put a link to the post. Someone (or more than one, or we could take turns) could use their zignature line as a link to the “list of links” post (ie the beginning of the thread).
If someone thinks this is a good idea, feel free to start the thread. Or, if someone has a better suggestion, I am all eyes.
I think we could copy and paste the instructions from other posts into a post in this f.a.q. thread.

Would it be possible to have a “change to desktop mode” function on the mobile site? Both are pretty similar, but I can’t find a way to access the inbox without manually changing my phone’s internet mode.
you just go to actions bar which is next to New/Updated Topics and click then it should open up an show options like inbox click inbox and then your there

I’d just like to use this space to make a friendly general request: That when you’re quoting a post which features a Youtube embed, if you could just delete the part with the relevant youtube url so the page won’t show the video twice. It keeps the pages less cluttered-looking and makes them load faster.
Thank you!

I say there should be an option to undo thanks like if you accidentally thank a spam post or something

Was gonna worry that that could cause all kinds of negativity, but I guess we’re all too nice to go around unthanking one another indiscriminately. Also, there’d be nothing stopping us from RE-thanking someone immediately after unthanking them in a momentary bout of childish anger.
On the other hand, I think thanking a spam post by mistake and then deciding to unthank might be a rare enough occurrence that it may be easier just to alert the mods if you want such a thing done. (And hm, won’t a spam post just be deleted anyways, along with the thanks?)

The mods do our best to catch spammy stuff. Sometimes I see posts that I think are questionable, and I put them under moderation and then I alert Joe and Zig to let them decide if it should be deleted or accepted. (No, this isn’t what happens to all those posts from mmm that get put into moderation status…just in case you were wondering.)

I’m watching you AG. I knew something was up with all the ones getting flagged.
To keep on topic has a way been found or sought (maybe one exists already) to get the PM’s to be sorted chronologically by the time the last post in the thread was received and not when the thread was first created. It’s a time consumer scrolling thru a whole load to find the one you are looking for.

That would be really nice.
For now, do you use contol f to find a word from the thread title to jump you to the thread? (That is if you can remember a word from the thread title.) Sometimes, but not always, seaching for the person’s user name helps.

For the inbox I wish it showed the person who sent and who got the message cause if I message someone I can’t see who it was sent to unless I click on it unless they respond.

If i remember yes but normally i forget the title of the thread so it doesn’t help. I never remember to search for the other person’s username, normally i knuckle down and go a-hunting.

If anyone can think of anything that should be included in the “How Do. . .” guide that isn’t feel free to send me a PM or post it here and i’ll type it up. I plan to cover some of the mobile device stuff but it won’t be until Sunday due to time restraints (that is if no-one else has). I’ve managed to figure out again how to take ipod screen captures.

Would we able to get a “search through topic” button or something along those lines. Looking through 10+ pages of info isn’t really the most enticing thing to do.
Also in the John/Paul/George/Ringo/’Yesterday and Today’ forums can we get a “Generic Questions About John/Paul/George/Ringo/Beatles” (each within their relative forum) of course topic pinned at the top so a lot of threads that only last about 4 posts don’t get started. If we’re all about having the forum nice and tidy, then shouldn’t we not have dead-end questions that once answered come to a stand-still?
My 2 cents
Oh and I would love a John/Paul wearing Buddy-Holly glasses smiley to use as a hipster smiley Stuart’s one is far too cool and Mal is just like the all-knowledgeable one Neither really fit.

The google search method “site:beatlesbible.com/forum” + your additional search words takes you to the right page but not the exact post. If you know the thread title then add that too so the range is narrowed.
May not be ideal but better than searching thru all of the ‘Impossible to Derail’ thread.

I don’t think there’s a better way to search than the one MMM mentioned. Certainly the built-in facility isn’t that helpful.
The generic questions thread within the J,P,G,R sections sounds like a good idea. I’ve just started something in each section. No plans to move everything over unless people want to flag threads individually (I’m hesitant to give more work to @Ahhh Girl, eager as she normally is to help sort things out!).

@Joe I just now saw this post after I’ve been sending you emails about thread work that could be done
I didn’t get this @ notification or I would have seen this right away. This makes about a half dozen @’s that look right in posts that I didn’t get notifications about.

[Moving the conversation from the ‘How To’ guide as i dont want it to become bogged down in discussions, you can see it here (posts 22 to 25)]
Re subscriptions and being inundated with emails would the “Receive subscription notifications in digest form (dailly)” be an answer. My understanding (which could be miles off) going by a google search is that you get one email a day listing the topics that have been posted that day in the subscriptions.

It would be nice if we could search our inbox. I have 2486 posts in 222 threads. It is a jungle in there.
