Interesting thought. “Off to the Tower!” with that post! lol
Or if Joe goes back and approves it, we can just say it was on mmm’s time-out step for a while.
Either way, it would be a learning curve for the mods as to which posts to send in to temporary (or permanent) exile. I’ll think about it and discuss it off the forum with the the guys.
Did anyone know that the human brain tends to skip over repeated words making mistakes like that go largely unnoticed?
(This is an example of an off-topic post that would be put in exile. Although not harmful it takes away from the conversation and interrupts.
Either that or it could be a minor discrepancy as RN described as it is quick, harmless, and easily ignored.
A definite suspended post could be:)
You’re all so stupid! Ringo obviously sang the ahhhs! Who else could that have been? You’re all deaf and I’m surprised you can call yourselves Beatle-fans!
And Pattie’s ugly!
(That post could rot in the dungeon for all I care!!)

It is an interesting thought. My only concern is that it is an action that feeds trolls or those who exhibit troll-like behavior. It seems to me that people like that thrive on making others react to them due to a lack of attention from people in the real world. If we keep admonishing them, or as would be the case in creating a thread for their idiotic ramblings, we play right into their hands. In essence, we would be creating a Troll Hall of Fame thread.
Instead, I say we simply deal with them as we have in the past. Depending on the level of their pathetic attempts for attention, we ignore them, delete the more disturbing posts or ban their IP address altogether.
If we don’t feed the trolls they can’t crap all over our Forum.

Or as an alternitive have a section of the forum where you shove all the troll posts. And when someone does bad you put them in the troll post section. It could be another option of punishing a troll instead of banning or deleting their account.

I’m totally with Zig. If you give folk a platform then they will make all efforts to stand and get your attention. Delete, ignore or ban is the best method.

I have to agree with this. @Ron Nasty’s idea of siphoning off comments into a holding pen is an interesting one, but I think it would be too antagonistic. I already have some misgivings over the amount of reordering and restructuring that’s happened – it’s definitely made the forum a more orderly place, but I know some people probably dislike having their posts moved around. It’s a tricky balance, minimising the anarchy while giving the good citizens enough freedom to walk around and write on the walls.
When things go off-topic it can be a pain, but this is a community forum. The mods can step in but I’d much rather fellow forumites encouraged people to stay on topic. And we’ll never be without troublemakers or trolls – it’s the nature of the beast.

I know what you mean, but I honestly don’t get why it’s a cause for upset. I like being able to search for posts and actually finding them. I don’t understand why anyone would be against that.

If a lot of your post are moved, then you get 100 post notification things at the top of your screen that you have to manually remove all of them since I am not sure if there is a way to get rid of all notifications at once.

I find in some cases it is harder to sort out conversations in a merge since posts auto sort chronologically so if two threads have similar times, then conversations get very disjointed in a thread and makes it harder to read.

We consider that factor prior to merging. If it’s not too convoluted, we go ahead and merge (by “we” I mean @Ahhh Girl and @meanmistermustard ). Sometimes it looks a bit daft, but most times it works well. My fellow Mods do a great job explaining the merge by inserting notes when possible.
Truth be told, we would rather not have to merge, but sometimes it is necessary when multiple posts discussing the same things are created. Again, no big deal. As @Joe says, it’s the nature of the beast.

Personally i think things work better and are easier to follow and locate if in the correct place, i don’t see the advantage or benefit of conversations being all over the shop. If the issue is too many notifications that your posts have been moved i got tons when Joe was putting the song entries together and it took about 10 seconds to remove them all.

A problem with some merges is timing issues so that conversations will be split and spread out in a thread.

AD40, mmm and I really work hard on making sure the time thing works. You should see the sheer number of back-and-forth emails mmm and I exchange before most merges happen. If we do something odd like I did with the Chapman threads the other day, I make sure to leave notes to give directions.

I don’t think that’ll happen so much now that all the song threads are in place. A lot of posts were moved over the past couple of weeks but things should settle down a bit now

Maybe for the Hurt/Heal games you can unlock one at a time so the recently updated topics are not flooded and people would be able to finish off the Hurt/Heal games?

Personally i feel the reintroduction of the hurt/heal games would only encourage the playing of more which is not something i want on the forum as i dont find them to be of any benefit. Without them the forum has picked up and improved content wise so why go back?

I am not talking about unlocking all of them at once. If you only unlock one game at a time it might work out better.
