Yeah, good idea. I didn’t think about those headings, but it makes sense to have some consistency. I’ve taken the ad links one out, and chose ‘There’s a place’ for the translations. Hopefully it’ll still be obvious what it’s for. I wanted to use ‘Here, There And Everywhere ‘ but it would be too long.

New banner art work too? You’ve been busy.
Just a few more. I think there are around 55 different designs which should appear randomly, though in reality they tend to get cached by a browser/server/isp and the same ones appear quite often. I’d like to add more over time, but I’m toying with a site redesign anyway (though not anytime soon) and might go with something new eventually.

This website is quite thin, as in there are wide white spaces at the edges on my widescreen monitor. Is there a particular reason for this? It’s just that in the Random lyrics section, the last couple words in a line are moved down to the next line because there isn’t room. Is there a setting in which I could fix this for my computer?
No, it’s a fixed-width website. That’s one of the things I’ll change when I do the next redesign.

When sending a personal message, under the place where you type in the name of the recipient it says “Start Typing a Member’s Name in the input field above and it will auto-complete”. But it doesn’t work. If I type in “A” in comes up with a list of all the members names who have the letter “A” in their name, not just the names that start with “A”. It’s fine for “A” because the names that start with “A” are all at the top of the list anyway but it’s inconvenient for other letters. It doesn’t auto-complete like it says it does. This list is also difficult to read as the list items are just text with no background (I’m can’t really explain what I mean, but try and you’ll see).
It’s not a huge problem but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh yeah. I can’t help the first bit, about it including all the names with that letter in them (try two letters and it should filter it down more). I didn’t code this forum, it’s third-party software.
As for the second bit, I didn’t know there was no background on the dropdown – I rarely use PMs myself. I’ve had a look with Firebug but can’t find the css class of the list – if anyone here can help, please let me know.
Simple Forum are bringing out a new version of the software in a few weeks, which promises to improve a lot of the template issues, so we’ll see if this is one of them. If not I’ll file a bug report.

A minor milestone: I just published article number 1,100 on the Beatles History section. Phew. I thought I should add something on George Martin’s birth, though the details I could find were quite scant (all extra contributions welcome).
It’ll most likely be the earliest I go back (January 1926). I don’t think there’s anything majorly significant that happened prior to that, unless I go crazy and start adding births of Beatle parents etc. George Martin’s birth seems like a fitting place to start the whole story.

Thanks! Yeah, the ‘we’ is a futile attempt to pretend there’s an army of Beatlemaniacs writing away around the clock, when in actual fact it’s one overworked Beatlemaniac spending too long at a single computer!
It’s quite frightening to think of how much content has been added. There are 1,100 blog posts, plus the 299 song articles, 28 album pages (although some don’t have anything more than a tracklisting and picture), 10 discographies (I need to add more), 33 people profiles, 11 features, a whole three book reviews, and some underpopulated image galleries.
The word-counts of the articles range from around 50 words to 8,500 (the Beatles and drugs feature is, I think, the longest). I’ve just added a thing to the footer which adds a word count of all articles across the site, currently 580,876. I didn’t know it was so many. If I’d known I’d be so industrious I’d have written a book or something.
Here are my plans for the site, such as they currently are:
- Finish the history up to the end of 1970, and do the missing 1961 and 1962 years. That should hopefully be done by the end of 2011 (at the moment I’m just finishing July 1964; it takes around three months to do a year, though some are easier than others).
- Go through all the articles and features and crosslink wherever a date is mentioned (eg recording/release dates).
- Finish off the albums articles. Currently about halfway there; I do one a month.
- Make fully-illustrated discographies for all countries I can find.
- Ramp up the number of images in the gallery, sorted by year. Add images to articles.
- Do the same for videos.
- Consider doing the solo years (songs/albums/history), but I’ll probably have gone insane by then.

Can’t wait ’til it’s finished. I guess it may never be completely finished – I suppose there’s always refining to do. Plus there’s a lot of those weird glyph things that replaced the apostrophes and foreign letters. Perhaps just a brief page on each of the solo careers and discographies would be more appropriate rather than going all out for a complete history.
The word count isn’t at the bottom of the Home page, any particular reason for this?
EDIT: By the way, what is the store? I’ve had a look through it. Are you selling all those things directly?
Yes, thanks for pointing out the weird characters that appear on some pages. It’s the result of a webhost migration last year. If anyone else spots them, please leave a comment on the page like McLerristarr v helpfully has been doing.
The word count is in the footer, under Tell Me Why . I’m not trying to shout about it – it’s really for my own reference.
Solo stuff: when I get to 68/69 in the history I’ll be writing about more of the solo stuff, so I’ll probably start adding song features as I go along. I won’t try and do it all in one go, but it makes sense that whenever, say, Give Peace A Chance is mentioned, I have somewhere to link to.
The store in the top-right strip is an Amazon aStore, meaning I get a cut if anyone orders through it though I don’t ship the stock directly; I just promote stuff that Amazon sells. However, I don’t think it works terribly well and I’ve been thinking of taking it down. Either that or make one for each of the Amazon stores.
BTW, if anyone’s thinking of ordering *anything* (not just Beatles stuff) through Amazon.com, .co.uk or .ca: if you click on the mono/stereo/usb apple ads on any of the non-forum pages on this site, it takes you to your nearest Amazon site. If you then make a purchase (it doesn’t have to be of the box sets), I’ll get a small percentage cut. Clicking on an ad puts a cookie on your computer, and when you make a purchase Amazon knows it’s come via the Beatles Bible. Someone bought a $1,000 camera lens a while ago after visiting, which was a nice bonus. No pressure or anything, but keep it in mind if you like. It all goes towards funding the site one way or another.

No, because I backdate a lot of the articles (eg when writing about 1960s events), which involves manipulating the datestamp.

I make amendments to articles on most days. People send corrections (as you well know!) and point out errors, mainly in the song articles. That’s fine – I always wanted the site to change and become more accurate over time. It’s always annoying when I read a book that’s out of date just because more info has come to light since it was published. With a website I’m lucky to be able to rewrite history.
Where are you citing the site? (Thanks btw, any efforts to spread the word of the Bible are always appreciated.)
EDIT apparently there is a way of showing the last-updated date/time, though I’d have to make some template changes. I’m not sure it’s something I actually want to display, but I’ll put it on a test page to see how it looks.
EDIT2 ah no, seems it still shows the manipulated date. I can’t really pretend that a page was last updated in 1964, before the www even existed!

Well, that’s one way of re-writing history with the internet! The Beatles invented the internet kids…
A lot of Beatles pages on Wikipedia cite this site as a source, that’s what I’m using it for. I think Wikipedia is how a lot of people find this site (as well as Google of course).
