@georgiewood
That’s OK. Would you be able to send me a link to that post? I had a look through a few pages of Beatley Moments but couldn’t see it.

Is this the post you are thinking about, @georgiewood?
Ben isn’t nude in the picture (maybe your mind was thinking he was – but that’s a discussion for another thread and time, a-hem). I can’t find a version of the picture that has a nude Affleck.

I remember the post and its not the one @Ahhh Girl linked to but have no idea where it is – yip, thats incredibly helpful.
Edit: Oh, ignore me. Its in the spoiler of that post but doesnt display complete. There is nothing about it that would get adsense sending notes to Joe. They were probably bored or needing to meet a target and on any other day would have overlooked it and not given a crap.
I dont think searching for a naked Ben Affleck will lead to places you’d want to visit ahhh girl.

Yeah, it was in the spoiler, which has now spun off into cyberspace. No worries!
I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

I had to implement a cookie consent popup to comply with EU law. I ignored the ruling for a while because the site is hosted in the US, but Google sent me an email to say I had to add one in order to remain in their advertising program. Google is bigger than the EU, of course.
It’s a line at the top of the screen which can be dismissed. Please let me know if you have any problems.
I’ve also tarted up the Privacy Policy page a little. I’m sure you all check it on a weekly basis, but I thought I’d bring it to your attention anyway.

Well done Joe, you guilt-tripped me (in the most positive meaning of the word) into removing my Ad-Block on this site (I had it turned off before but I can’t remember why I turned it back on again ). I think I’ll go click on a couple of ads to make for some of the revenue I lost you 😛
For all of you very good people who don’t use AB, Joe added a message that comes up if you use AB just saying that he doesn’t get any money to help finance even the most basic things such as server costs if you have AB on. I felt guilty especially as this my 3rd most used site and Joe does a great job here so I turned it off!
So for all the rest of you AB users, switch it off for Christ’s sake, sure how are you meant to know if there are sexy, singles in your town looking to have fun times with you if it is turned on?!?

I live in the country, know my neighbours to a certain point, and can assure you all that none are sexy or single.
Thankfully i dont know them well enough to know if country “parties” which involved bowls, car-keys and loose inhibitions exist.

Here is the message in full so the curious people don’t go and switch on their ad blockers to see it. (I had add blocker left on from a while ago and I forgot to take it off.)
The only pop-up window you’ll ever see on this site
Hi. Sorry to interrupt your browsing. Can I have a minute, maybe two, of your time?
You appear to be using adblocking software. I can’t stop you from doing this, but I would like to ask you to consider whitelisting my site.
I’ve spent countless hours researching and writing Beatles features to share with the world. It’s mainly funded through some non-obtrusive banner and sidebar ads, plus some Amazon affiliate links and occasional PayPal donations.
I hate ads as much as anyone, but without them I wouldn’t be able to continue. All my features, several thousand of them, well over a million words, are free to access. However, if every one of my visitors used adblockers I’d shut the site down tomorrow. It simply wouldn’t be sustainable.
There is no kindly benefactor bankrolling this site. Every single feature was written at home during my spare time. I’m a Beatles fan and love sharing information. All I ask in return is that people view the site as intended.
I don’t run pop-ups, pop-unders, autoplay videos, obnoxious sounds, fake close buttons, interstitial ads, Outbrain, Taboola or any of those other annoying things that plague the modern web. I hate them just like you probably do. I’m proud of the Beatles Bible and want it to be as good as it can be. Unfortunately some advertising is necessary to keep things running, if only to pay for server costs.
Please add http://www.beatlesbible.com to your whitelist or disable your adblocking software.
Thanks for reading.

Thanks. I thought about mentioning it here but didn’t want to draw attention to it.
That message has been running for about 36 hours and so far 66 people have whitelisted this site. Thanks to all.
About 15% of visitors here run adblockers. I understand why they’d want to, I really do, but as an indie publisher I see it from the other side. I’d actually like to run fewer ads here, but I’d also one day like to earn enough money to work on this site full-time. It’s a tricky balancing act and I wish there was universally-satisfactory way.

In response to @Starr Shine?’s message here (and elsewhere) about multiple YouTube videos causing page-load lag, I’ve added lazy load for videos.
Lazy load is something you’ve probably seen here and elsewhere on the web, even if you’re not familiar with the term. When you open a web page, instead of all the images loading at the same time, they only materialise when you scroll down the page and get to them. I’ve been running it on this site for a year or so and it seems to help a little with load times and page weight.
I recently discovered that it was possible to also lazy load YouTube videos, so I’ve enabled it across the site. Instead of showing the embedded clip, it should now display a still image which you need to click to load the video. It looks almost the same as the standard YouTube embed but has a white arrow play button.
It seems to work OK but might need some fine-tuning, so let me know if you have any issues. Hope it helps.

I’ve added https security to this site. If all is working correctly, you should see https and a padlock symbol in your browser bar, which means all connections are fully encrypted.
For day-to-day browsing and posting it shouldn’t make any practical difference, but please leave a note here if you encounter any issues. There might still be some insecure elements which I haven’t yet fixed, particularly with some third-party services (though this shouldn’t be any cause for alarm).
There’s some information on the importance of secure browsing on Google’s dev site: https://developers.google.com/…../why-https
HTTPS helps prevent intruders from tampering with the communications between your websites and your users’ browsers. Intruders include intentionally malicious attackers, and legitimate but intrusive companies, such as ISPs or hotels that inject ads into pages.
Intruders exploit unprotected communications to trick your users into giving up sensitive information or installing malware, or to insert their own advertisements into your resources. For example, some third-parties inject advertisements into websites that potentially break user experiences and create security vulnerabilities.
Intruders exploit every unprotected resource that travels between your websites and your users. Images, cookies, scripts, HTML… they’re all exploitable. Intrusions can occur at any point in the network, including a user’s machine, a Wi-Fi hotspot, or a compromised ISP, just to name a few.
HTTPS prevents intruders from being able to passively listen in on the communications between your websites and your users.
One common misconception about HTTPS is the belief that the only websites that need HTTPS are those that handle sensitive communications. Every unprotected HTTP request can potentially reveal information about the behaviors and identities of your users. Although a single visit to one of your unprotected websites may seem benign, some intruders look at the aggregate browsing activities of your users to make inferences about their behaviors and intentions, and to de-anonymize their identities. For example, employees might inadvertently disclose sensitive health conditions to their employers just by reading unprotected medical articles.
FYI, all passwords on this site are – and always have been – fully encrypted. There’s never been any cause for concern, this is just a belt-and-braces measure.
EDIT: There seems to be an issue with some avatars and images still being served over http. I’ll look into that.
