Some Gratitude And Thanks To Joe For The Beatles Bible

Just some feedback. Very nice site, not sure if it’s a fan-driven or commercial venture, but either way, some hard work has clearly gone into putting it together. The forum is a little(!) dead, but I guess that’s to be expected to a degree, as the Beatles aren’t a hotly-debated bit of current internet events, and no doubt there are established hangouts for the hardcore and diehards since the usenet days.

Anyway, good job. I’m sure traffic will pick up around and after the 9th of September when the discs are re-released along with the game.

cheers!

Hi Azazel. Thanks for the feedback.

The site's pretty much a fan-driven labour of love. I'm a Beatle-obsessive (I guess that's pretty obvious), but a lot of time has been spent researching and writing the articles. The ads bring in a trickle of money, but not nearly enough for me to give up the day job!

As for the forum – yes, it's pretty dead at the moment, but the site's only existed since around March 2008, so it's inevitable that the more-established forums out there will be busier. I hope that over time more people swing by and contribute, but it's always hard to gauge. All forums take time to gather momentum though.

As for the future, I'm planning more features, photos, and articles on each of the albums (most of those pages just have links to the song articles at the moment). It's a bit frustrating not being able to do it full time, as there's so much to do, but I'll get there in the end.

All the best,

Joe

I will start recomending this forum to friends of mine. The actual site is fantastic, but the forum could use some fresh faces.

It's funny seeing these really old threads again. It's interesting to note that just a year ago this forum was largely dead, and now traffic to it is greater than the traffic to the front page of the site. Well done everyone! apple01

I’ve never posted here before today (or any forum, for that matter), and I’m new to the site. I’m a journalist and was researching Lennon for a biographical assignment, and I found this site during my research. Apart from how unbelievably helpful this site is (giving a near complete day-by-day account of their lives, with SOURCED information), I started looking at the forum for educated analysis of a couple of topics because, to my amazement, (given that John Lennon is one of the most studied and popular people of the last century) a number of issues and events in his life are still debated.

I’m not a forum reader, let alone contributor, usually. But this one seems so positive and thoughtful, and I started to enjoy indulging my interest in the band and John in particular, by reading through it. I just wanted to express my gratitude for all the hard work that has obviously gone into the site, and for the kind, thoughtful conversation the members here have. I’m relatively young (I just turned 28 about a week ago), and wasn’t even alive when John died, which makes understanding him and the nature of his cultural impact a little trickier since I have no personal frame of reference for any of it. My first personal Beatles cultural experience (sadly) is of Anthology coming out when I was in grade school, and seeing all of my little friends discover the Beatles for the first time and seeing my teachers re-discover the band with great enthusiasm.

Thankfully, my mother gave me a thorough education long before that. She had the red and blue albums on CD; she’d put all of the discs in the 6-disc player and set it to “shuffle.” Then, we’d have a contest to see who could name the songs first (“Help !” was obviously disqualified…) When I got good at all the hits, she upped the ante and added “The White Album .” I was probably the only ten-year-old in town who could pick out “The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill ” in two seconds flat.

Anyway, I’m long-winded (clearly), but I just wanted to say “thank you” for to the people (or person) who runs the site and to the readers. You’ve all be quite helpful in a professional capacity, but, more so, you’ve been entertaining and thought-provoking for me personally, as well.

Even though I am also relatively new to the forum, I am glad you like the forum and hope you will stay and contribute the discussions :).

Joe has certainly done an amazing job to create a website that is a stand out amongst the many thousands of sites that exist. Plus having info on whats happening to the site as it occurs, fast feedback, and that he contributes to the forum are large benefits. Its a great place to be.

Welcome WithGrace. I also came across the site/forum when researching into Lennon/Beatles and like you couldn’t believe how detailed it all was, and what a great forum there is too.

May we ask what you’re working on exactly?

I’ve only just seen this topic, but I’m always glad when people like the site (and even more so when they’re inspired enough to let me know!). The forum’s a great place – the quality of conversation’s good nowadays. There was a dip a couple of years ago when we had some strident personalities and some hot-headed teenagers who loved to , but I think it’s getting better all the time.

WithGrace – I’m a journalist too. Hi! Welcome. Let me know if you’ve used the site in any of your features/articles. I’d be interested to read them.

FYI, the day-by-day part is still being added to. At the moment I’m filling in some Cavern-era gaps and some early 1970 sessions. Eventually I want to make the history section as complete as possible for the solo years too, but as Lennon once sang “There’s a long way to go…”

If and when you do, I’d imagine this site will be invaluable:

I’ve seen that before but didn’t know if it was bookmarked. It’ll be really useful, as will the Lennonology books when they eventually come out. Not to mention Mark Lewisohn’s, of course, though I presume the last of those will stop in 1970.

I agree,I´m 13 and I don´t know what ever I did before discovering this site because I have learnt some many new things.New things that I have used in a quiz that I have made up on the Quipper app(for iphones etc). So, thanks a lot 🙂

I completely agree with this, I also have just joined this site and already feel right at home! I have posted on forums before and there are some where you just feel judged for asking “stupid” questions and what not but everyone here just wants to share their love for the Beatles and that’s what brings us all together. Thanks guys. 🙂

I’ve only been here for three days — and I just want to say to Joe, you have an amazing site.  The forum is very stimulating, and the wealth of information you have collected is dazzling.  Also, the many features you have here are so helpful to the readers — I just discovered that constantly automatically updated list of “unread” new posts, which many discussion forums don’t have, and it forces you to have to slog through to try to find what’s new and what’s not.

Anway, thanks so much Joe for an early Christmas present!
