This subject has been discussed before, @Dingle Lad, possibly in the “All-Purpose Getting-to Know-BBers Questions Thread”. @Ahhh Girl is the person for finding the conversation.

It should be noted that in the “Forum Rules and Help Guides” section we have “The Thread Search Thread“, where you can ask if a thread exists that deals with a certain topic, and one of those who know will reply as quickly as possible. A lot of us know where to head for many things, but AG is our search queen.

It should also be noted you have posted this in the section “Getting Better : We welcome your feedback about this site. Post it here.” Your topic cannot be in any way considered “feedback about this site”.

It once would have gone in “All Together Now “, which is for non-Beatles conversation, but @Joe felt there was too much non-Beatles conversation for a Beatles Forum, and closed it to new topics, with the coronavirus thread being for the first new thread there in years – and that was purely down to the strange days we find ourselves in, and trying to collect together conversations that were taking over several subjects.

I hope this helps.

I would have hoped you’d have got some idea on how this forum works from it, @Dingle Lad;

that there is a thread, which I linked to, for asking if a subject is already covered by another thread before creating a new thread;

that the “Getting Better ” section of the forum is for feedback about the forum and main site, and not general subjects (which this is);

and that Joe isn’t keen on too many non-Beatles conversation, which at one time totally drowned out the Beatles conversation on a Beatles forum, so has locked the section of the forum this should have gone in to new thread creation, something I don’t totally agree but nor do I totally disagree with as I understand why it happened.

There may be things you want to ask Forumpudlians that are more social than Beatles, but we have a thread for that, the “Getting-to-Know-BBers” thread.

I was merely hoping to help you with navigating this forum and its idiosyncrasies.

LOL. Idiosyncrasies is putting it mildly. I don’t know how this got into the getting better area. I get that it doesn’t belong here. BTW how is the Non Canon Poll going? You can answer in the proper area. As for the getting to know BBers thread it’s too broad I don’t want to sift through posts about Pokeman and the non existent take over of America by Europe (Europe needs to worry about China) just to find what I’m talking about.

As for more non Beatle talk then the band itself, it shouldn’t matter unless there is a limited amount of bandwidth. I’ll do a little bit of digging my self and see what I come up with.

I do dislike the “LOL” in both of your posts in response to my trying to help as they almost sound mocking of my comments.

Why shouldn’t it matter to Joe that he created a forum for Beatles conversation which he felt had become about anything but the Beatles? Nothing to do with bandwidth or anything, just him wanting the forum he attached to the main site to be mainly about The Beatles. His website, his forum, his rules.

And, yes, still much social conversation allowed (Joe could have just locked ‘All Together Now ‘ to all new posts), he recognised that cutting all social content wouldn’t improve the forum, but he didn’t want it that day after day he’d look and nobody had posted about the Beatles. There was a period that, whenever you came on the forum, the list of most recent posts you saw were all non-Beatles games and general social chit-chat, not a Beatles subject in sight.

Joe didn’t create a social forum but a Beatles forum where he’s allowed to draw the lines. What’s wrong with him tilting the balance more toward what he wanted it be?

And I @tted AG because she’s so good that you just wouldn’t be pointed to the thread where the previous conversation happened, but she’d have/she will link to the first post in that about that topic, so you wouldn’t need to go through the whole thread.
